Hi folks:

I put these on my Mazda about 3 years ago. I'm a little surprised at how much rust they have collected - around the hub and even on the rotor face itself.

My mechanic even commented that I need to keep an eye on the front left, because the back is rusting out.

Anyone else had an issue like this - or did I just get a bad one?

Next spring I will probably replace it. Are the Advanced Technology versions a better choice, or should I go another with brand?

Uncoated rotors are total rubbish. Minutes upon install they start rusting. Raybestos makes fully coated rotors under their RPT Rust Preventative Technology line so I would use them on the next brake job.

You have a Mazda. You shouldn't be surprised at how much rust can be collected

Wagner's E-coated rotors are very good. Mine are still holding up reasonably well after a year

The Raybestos Pro Grade rotors are a basic uncoated rotor, so yea that will happen.

Get a coated rotor like the Wagners, Centric, etc... and they will not rust as quickly.

Disks about halfway down first page. I clean them up using the engine and a crushed beer can held against the rotating disk.

Evaluating treating the rims to inhibit re-rusting, using aluminium and either superglue or sunflower oil as a binder.

Both are clearly better than nothing but its unclear ATPIT which is best, Sunflower oil is easier to apply due to the long set time, but has more contamination potential.

After 3yrs? I've paid extra for "coated" rotors and had them rust after one winter. Not much you can do in the rust belt.

What brand were they?

Wagner coated rotors coat both sides unlike some of the others.

They were carquest gold/premium? They were for the rear of my 2016 Forester. The hats and edges had a nice grey paint finish. For a few months anyway.

I have used Raybestos Advanced Technology rotors, have a set now that is 4 years old and no rust yet. Lately I have been using their rust prevention rotors,-basically coated and they seem to be fine as well. I have a customer's car here now that I had put on regular white box autozone rotors and they are all rusted after sitting for a few days after a rain. Driving a few minutes cleans them right up (after the crunchy noise) but the hub part stays rusted and does look bad.

Raybestos advanced technology is my go to rotor as long as they are available for my car. Very rust resistant and rarely have pad transfer issues as long as I use semi-metallic pads. Ceramics are the devil

I don't bother with fancy stuff, I figure, after 5 years they will be shot anyhow. I find if they sit for a day or two, the braking surface rusts. That doesn't help. Then normal driving will cause them to groove up.

got EBC's for my 11 nissan frontier, higher carbon + fully coated, time will tell. from reading almost ALL rotors are chinese, some better than others. EBC manufactures in UK + USA
