Isnt M1 the only full synthetic(G-IV/V) on that list, besides GC?

If so, its amazing that it doesnt consistantly show better UOAs then GIIIs

Why is Valvoline Maxlife Synthetic the only high mileage oil on this list?

It doesn't belong on this list.

I would use all the products on the list - except Royal Purple. My favorites from this list are the Shell products... Pennzoil and Quaker State Q-H.

There's way to many variables, and the list of 7 is lacking...
But you have to set that all aside, and just list in order of your personal preference, the given 7.

I consider it, "For entertainment purposes only."

Rank them with this in mind.

"If you were the warranty claim manager for the new vehicle manufacturer what criteria would you apply in ensuring the certification of the engine oils to protect the customer and minimise claims to your office."

1. Mobil 1/PP
2. Valvoline Synpower
3. Valvoline Maxlife Synthetic
6. Castrol Syntec
7. Royal Purple

I don't see AMSOIL on any of the lists. You can get it from most auto parts stores.

So does everyone think AMSOIL is worse than all of the ones listed or did he just not want to include it...??

I can not buy Amsoil anywhere locally.

Amsoil is the best boutique brand on the market IMO.

WOW!

I can get Amsoil at NAPA, Auto Value, O'Reilly, Red Rooster and Fleet Farm.

Buster, given the selection of oils to choose from I would tend to agree with you. Pretty hard to split Mobil 1 $80 for 5L /PP $65 for 5L and Valvoline Synpower $60 for 5L, if regular OCI's of 6 months or 10000 km (6000 miles)are used. (cost is in AUD and is the average retail price in Western Australia).

I would throw in Fuchs Oils into the list, as that what I am currently using.

You can't get it down here either.

Some do, not all. Napa stores are independently owned and operated, so if the owner chooses to become an Amsoil dealer, they sell Amsoil.

I'd put PP in the same league as M1 at this point. In some grades it's even better.

Valvoline is the sleeper of the bunch mentioned IMO.

Syntec produced 26% more deposits than M1 in TEOST testing. It also failed the Honda turbo spec.

Royal Purple makes some decent oils, but are they really any better than PP/M1? I think not.

I chose these 7 oils because it is what I have available locally to me off the shelf. Boutique oils like Amsoil are not on the list because you can't buy Amsoil locally here at any store. That being said. I have Amsoil in two of my cars right now.

I know I may have missed some oils, but just thought it would be a fun post, thats all.

As for the Valvoline Maxlife Synthetic, it is synthetic, and I know of at least a couple of people who use it in almost new vehicles.

I am not really sure if Mobil 1 is a true Group IV oil anymore, but that being said. It is still a good oil in my opinion. I don't know if I will use it though. If it ever goes on sale for something like BOGO, then I may. I change my mind on oils to use like the weather changes. I always use something different for most oil changes.

I put the Valvoline Synpower at the bottom of my list, and that's the oil I just finish using.
I just couldn't find much info on it. I don't think anyone has done a VOA on it, but maybe we'll get to see one soon, as many are buying it BOGO at AAP.

This whole "certification" business is blown way out of proportion on this site. Certification is nothing more than a way for the car mfg to get more money. A new car mfg/dealer CAN NOT void your warraty just because the oil is not certified to meet that car mfg's oil standard. They can't do it if the oil meets or exceeds the standard. That is the law. I personally have worked service and dealer parts and have dealt with this from the dealers side.
