Question about Auto-RX

Okay, after reading a lot of reviews about this stuff, I figured I would try to use it in my slightly sludged-up '98 Blazer with ~129k miles on it. I have only had the vehicle for the last 11k miles or so, so I don't know how it was previously maintained.

Anyways, I have ordered two bottles of the Auto-RX to do the two-step cleaning process and wanted to ask if this stuff works so well, can it be used in other ways? For instance, if it cleans the internals of an engine of carbon, 'sludge,' and other buildups, can a small amount of it be used in the fuel tank to help clean the fuel injectors, intake runners, and intake valves? It's just a thought. Obviously mixing a bottle or two of the stuff with 18 gallons of gas would be MUCH less concentrated than a single bottle mixed in with 5 quarts of oil, but it was just a theory I had. Anybody have any thoughts on that?

No, You shouldn't run AutoRx in your gas (things to mix and run with fuel is different than that of AutoRx, keep that in mind).

You should consider running FP, Chevron Techron, Pennzoil Regaine, etc mixed with your fuel instead.

Use your AutoRx where it's intended to be used (aka motoroil) and don't go overboard.

What are people's thoughts on the BG44 cleaner? It seems to be pretty popular with shops around here.

Auto-Rx is designed for use in oil based systems only. Engines, transmissions, differentials & power steering systems are OK, but brake, clutch & fuel systems are off limits.

I really like BG's 44K. All the Saab garages around here use it & recommend a treatment once every 30k miles (the major service intervals for Saabs).

I had that BG44 treatment done to my Accord and it runs smoother and 1 or 2 mpg more.

Any potential damage to engine or internals and is there any proof?

I ran auto rx on my 99 Jeep XJ, 99 Jeep TJ, 92 Astro van, and 97 cavalier and all saw gains. The most gains were seen in the 97 cavalier, it had 140k and after 2 treatments it is getting 20-30 more miles per tank!

Hey Eiron. Question about BG44k. From what I can tell it's basically a heavy-duty fuel system cleaner. Any reason to use it, say at the upcoming 30k service on my '03 Aero

Probably not. But I don't use Techron, so I really don't know how well things are cleaned up for you now. After I ran 44K in our '85 I pulled the injectors. The sides of the nozzles were still coated in crud (it wiped off easily), but the ends & openings were all clean & clear. The car had 150k miles on it when we bought it, & the receipts said 44K had been used once or twice before. I'd rather not have to add an extra something every 3k-5k miles if I can avoid it, so 44K fits my schedule. If you're happy with Techron & don't mind the frequency (& maybe extra cost?), then you may not want to change.

How's that for noncommittal?

If it were me & I thought Techron had been doing a good job, I might wait for an extra 5k miles (10k since adding the last bottle; I thought Techron called for 3k mile applications?) & then switch over to 44K. That would give you 25k miles before you'd consider adding it again.

My dearly departed '92 Saturn SC made it to 185k miles without any fuel system problems, injector or otherwise, on a steady diet of Techron about 3x per year. That was enough to convince me! For that reason I'm putting it in the 9-5 every 5k. Chevron says 3k, Dean over on Saabnet seems to think 8k is fine.

I guess if the car starts acting funny I'll give the 44k a shot, if not I'll just assume the Techron is doing the trick.
