ULVER,

Just to clarify, I never had any real intention of using this oil. I purchased it for the sole purpose of posting a picture of it here at BITOG.....I feel like a geek for admitting that. Well, I guess I am a geek, really.

After I posted the picture, I thought about using the oil; My better judgment then took over.

I returned the oil to WalMart & got my money back. There was just no way I could could convince myself to use it.

At least we have a record of it's existence, for whatever that's worth.

Even though I couldn't bring myself to use the QS/Slick50 crap, I had no problem convincing myself that I should replace it with a quart of Chevron Delo 15w40.

The Expedition's next Frankenbrew oil change will consist of:
5 qt's Valvoline Maxlife 5w30
1 qt. Chevron Delo 15w40
Valvoline Maxlife oil filter

This stuff has disappeared from the Walmart shelves around here...its hilarious...they're back to stocking the non-Slick50 QS High Mileage bottles again.

i never saw any bottles like that around here, and I frequent the oil sections of a few places for prices and availability of weights/brands...(colorado springs region)..

HOWEVER... I did scratch my head to an interesting little "kit" I saw for sale at- I think it was ethor checker or autozone,, can't recall... It was 4 or 5 qts of regular dino quaker state, and a slick-50 box all celephaned together in half a box. Got me thinking- slick 50 in bed with QS, QS in bed with penz, penz in bed with iffyloob, whos in bed with using crappy filters I assume are frams...

Seems like all the "crap" is being sold by the same ring of suppliers. A good reason not to use even their premium products- it's supporting a company that sells junk to the unknowing public.

I used to be that unknowing public. using frams and penz, and QS, and supertech. thanks BITOG. I've graduated to making the extra trip to advance parts for a pure-on filter and then to wallyworld for a better deal on a good oil.

[EDIT]: penz/QS dinos aren't all that bad compared to other dinos- but when you can buy havoline with a nice pile of moly already in the bottle for about 30% less cost- I think that puts penz/qs in their place.

I saw some of this stuff the other day in Pep Boys. Couldn't believe it. They must be trying to get rid of old stuff or it's showing back up again.

NO API or any specs at all? How do we know it's not just an SA equivelent or worse?

I pm'd Johnny & asked why this oil carried no API specs. The following was his reponse to me:

"Two reasons. (1) After April 2006 the SL rating will be obsolete and only SM can be used. This oil does not meet SM requirements. (2) This is a true High Mileage Oil. It was not designed to be used in new cars (although it could) to meet warranty requirements. It was designed to be used in older high mileage cars that are starting to use or burn oil. It's original intent was to help with valve stem seal leaks on GM products and blow-by. It does both of these very well. So, you won't see any rating on the bottle...."

Didn't the University of Utah find tht the Tornado intake air spinner really worked as advertised. They liked Slick 50 and Prolong and other products, too.

You've got to wonder about any company that would buy Slick 50 and promote it. Wonder what's in their other procuts the sell. The engineers can't possibly be fooled.

All that I can say is that I have used sopus products pennzoil/quaker state for 8+ years. I think that there stuff is very high quality and there is a lot of people here that believe the same thing. I dont believe any company would put teflon in there motor oil.

Even if an API rating is obsolete, if the oil was blended to meet older specs, it could list the older spec on it.

The not up to date website doesn't show the highmileage/slick50 combo oil yet.
