Both of these oils seem as solid as any oil currently on the market. If you had to buy one, which one would you buy? I might pickup a case at some point to see how Havoline works out compared to the PYB. They seems like different beast, but similar results. Both outstanding, just looking for some feedback.

Agreed, I think that PYB is an awesome oil with great results. My camry runs well on it. But I always see cases of HDS on sale at my local sams for 26 dollars which is great. But my father was a PYB guy and so am I.

Anything that is GF-5 > GF-4. DS could technically meet GF-5 already, but we don't know that.

Both of these brands out preform Mobil 1 , I would use which ever is cheaper. Both are outstanding oils with great R&D people behind them... Johnny knows what I'am talking about

Exclusively in your opinion of course. But alas, it would appear you forgot to preface your post with that essential tidbit of information.

Two best dinos out IMO, I prefer Havoline/Chevron Supreme but I'd wager most on this board prefer PYB right now.

Hmmm, are you sure about that, at least with the wording you used? Both these conventional oils (i.e. PYB and Halvoline DS) out perform Mobil 1, a synthetic?

One could conceivably argue that PU or PP or Halvoline Synthetic outperforms Mobil 1. One could also conceivably argue that PYB and Halvoline DS outperform Mobil conventional.

I just don't think PYB and Halvoline DS vs. Mobil 1 is a valid comparison. While they all compete for dollars, of course, they each have different applications at which they excel. If you're looking to compare synthetics versus conventionals, "outperforms" is as loaded a word as "better."

PYB will outperform just about anything, with respect to my wallet, using the OCIs I employ. PYB will not outperform Mobil 1 when I go to start my car in the morning after it's been sitting all night in -45 weather.

Either all this current synthetic hype is bunk, or there just isn't that much of a difference.

btw- How's the situation w/your engine now Buster?

The cabs used QS, during the alleged sludge years, all with the long OCIs. The engines were plenty clean at cam changeover time.

For my own vehicle, I use Delvac 1 or Mobil 1. I'm not under the illusion my vehicles will last longer. It's just nicer with the turbo, and, more importantly, those -45 nights when they're outside aren't a lot of fun in the morning.

The cabs used 10w30 all year, since they never spent any time shut off in the cold. They were running, or stored in a heated shop.

Yeah true. A good formulation, is a good formulation. How you get there really doesn't matter. There are just different quality levels. Most of these companies make quality oil.

Car is fine. Less white smoke, but I haven't checked in awhile.

As an aside, the only Chevron I've come across up here is Delo at the truck stop where I buy Delvac conventional if I need it late at night.

PYB puts up great numbers and is readily available if you are on a road trip and need some top up, so it is good and convenient.

BUT, if Havoline were just as available, I would still be using it today. Used it a lot in the past, and IMO, it's the finest dino out there. But availability became a problem in this area.

Either will serve you well. Flip a coin IMO.
