Push Mower Stalling Out on Inclines

I am assuming this Toro has water in the gas. Mows fine on level ground and slightly inclined. But on steep banks it will die out unless I man
handle it back to a semi level position. I was helping someone with back issues mow their yard so I didn't have time to fully evaluate the problem.
He said it was out of gas and he filled it up for me before I got there. I'm gonna drain the fuel bowl and empty the old gas can and get some fresh gas???

Anything else I need to be ready to investigate?

Sounds like it's running out of fuel for some reason on an incline. Is it self propelled? Try pushing it up the hill to see if it does it w/o it on? Not everyone seems to understand that dirt & debris from the gas container isn't good inside the engine. One thing you can do that I've started doing on these push mowers is get the 75 micron simple disc shaped fuel filter.

EDIT: Woops, I meant I've been using the 150 micron filters for non fuel pump small engine.

What engine for the Toro you might not have had enough gas for hill? Check the tank for dirt. I had a blade of grass or small leaf in the push mower's tank that would end up blocking the outlet to the carb, causing it to stall. This made me insane until I saw something floating around in the tank after shaking the mower with the cap off. dumped gas and blew the tank out with a rag covering the opening. That's how I found the problem. Refilled, no more stalling

Does it have a low oil sensor? That can also be affected by inclines.

The needle valve in the carburetor might be closing on inclines. If so, adjusting the carburetor float should fix the stalling.

Many small engine tanks have a screen built into the outlet connection some way. Resist the urge to use a wire or nail to make sure it isn't clogged.

Probably water sitting on the bottom, very common. Pull the bowl off and see what you find. If the main jet is incorporated into the bowl nut, that may be clogged also.

In my experience debris from the tank is held back by the micro screen filter and never reaches the carb. It's water reacting with metal that wreaks havoc.

Only if very minimal amounts. Phase separation (i.e., where water disassociates from the ethanol) occurs above 0.5% content.
