Just changed the oil in my daily driver a 2006 Hyundai Sonata GLS 2.4 I used the bitog special pennzoil platinum 5W30 with a fresh Purolator PureOne PL14459. what would be an appropriate oci? engine is in good shape and clean with 176,000 on the clock.

what intervals is this filter capeable of?

Given your location and above average driven miles, I would run early spring 2014 at the LATEST. The oil will be toast by then.

Only if the engine is in good running condition and state of tune.
Your end to end PCV and IAF must be in good shape.

PP is not synthetic oil.

Your post is full of ****.

PP can handle more than 6 months in that engine. With a lot of highway miles PP has shown stellar UOA at 17K. By law PP is synthetic and therefore may be called so.

OP that oil and filter combo can easily go 7500mi.

The filter is good for 20k in a non-sludged engine IMO. If the Sonata has been well maintained, the PP should go 10k miles if you keep it topped off and it's not all short trip driving. That comment about PP not being synthetic is laughable, it's one of the best oils on the market.

Personally, I wouldn't run a PureOne for 20K miles. Probably 10K would be my limit, even in a clean engine. You could probably push a Fram Ultra to 20K since it's rated for 15K.

+1 Given the info provided I'd say that's a nice conservative estimate. If I wanted to push it, ~10k mi. would be the max out for that combo for me.

Engine is very clean and has been well maintained since new, given that the manufacture reccomends 7,500 for regular and 3,750 miles for severe service. I think i can take thos oci to 7,500 miles with complete piece of mind, just wanted a second opinion.

I've never seen the owners manual for a 06 Sonata but...You live in Chicago - every owners manual I've ever seen would qualify you for "Severe Service" on climate alone - although I suppose if you park in a heated garage at both home and work you could consider that a mittigating factor - that and if you can somehow avoid stop & go driving ...

One probably has to live along the coast in northern Washington state or southern British Columbia to have a real shot at year-round mild temperatures.

Personally I'd rather stretch the a little in the fall, then start fresh around third week of November so my oil is as new as possible during the three coldest months.

It isnt - it uses gpIII stocks. The Advertising Board allows gpIII oils to be advertised as "Fully Synthetic" but group iii is not technically synthetic. Not saying its a bad oil - but its no Amsoil ATM or Motul XMAX or FUCHS Silkolene (nor does it have their approval list).

Synthetic is not a spec or an indicator of performance in long drain applications.

OT Some folks still fighting the Grp III vs Grp IV synthetic nomenclature battle. If one reads the pcmo board the opinion stated above is in the extreme minority now.

All extraneous comparisons aside, PP is a quality synthetic that can easily do 7.5-10k mi. oci's.
