Has anyone had any problems with Anti-Drainback valves on Purolator Premium Plus filters? I have an L14459 filter on my '95 Accord, and I've noticed the oil pressure light flickering on and off on some starts. It's worse when I'm parked facing downhill, which I imagine lets more oil drain out of the filter (the open end of the filter faces forward). I've haven't had this problem with before at all, and I've used FRAM, Mobil 1, and K&N filters.

Do Purolators do this a lot, or do you think it's just this filter that's bad?

The last one I used didn't give me any problems.

For the $4 dollars and the 1/2 qt of oil it'll cost you, try changing it and see if it's just that one particular filter.

Used them for years on our Hondas. Unless that generation is different, the filter mounts right side up which I would think, the ADBV wouldn't come into play because the oil in the filter would be held there by gravity. I know this is a stupid question, but sometimes you just gotta ask, is the engine low on oil? I can see parked downhill, but level?

IMO Purolators have one of the best ADBV designs. Try another one. If your OCI is long or the car runs hot you might want to consider a filter with a silicone ADBV like the one on the Pure One.

I only have experience with an 84 Civic, 87 & 91 Accords, but in those 3 cases, the filter is pretty much horizontal.

The oil level is within millimeters of the full mark, I check that religiously. The filter on this car is mounted almost horizontal, with the open end pointing towards the front of the car. That leads me to think that when I park facing downhill, the open end is pointed down slightly, and oil could flow out. I noticed the problem after 3k miles on the filter. I'm now 4.2k miles into my 5k mile OCI. I guess I'll try another one of these filters and see what happens. Thanks for your input guys.

P.S. My engine doesn't run hot. My oil temp gauge usually reads between 190 and 215 F, I've only seen it exceed 220 once on a prolonged 4500 rpm climb up the cascades. I've never seen it go above 230. Of course, I just installed it at this last oil change, but I don't think it ran hot before either.

True, but in many engines there's a column of oil inside the engine which can drain back out through the filter. Upon startup, the column needs to be refilled.
