Tried a Purolator on LX7317 on somebody else’s car for an OCI.

Lots of loose glue on the paper. I’m highly doubtful it went into bypass.

What is that glue’s function? I guess i am not familiar with that particular design.
To hold the filter media and end caps together, not really that vital honestly I don't think it would result in any issue but loose/sloppy glue is unacceptable just like their efficiency ratings.

Right, i understand glue for the media and end caps, but in picture #3, it appears a “slathering of glue” was applied between the ADBV and the metal end cap. If I am seeing that correctly, that is what I am asking about. I would be concerned about glue bypassing and entering the passages.

Yes you are right to be concerned.. and you can also see it loose in the media.

This is obviously not so rare as here is another recent brand new one below with the same issue and even so.. How could you even begin to trust this brand? .. You just install the filter and cross your fingers that you didn't get a bad one wondering what is inside?

What a sick joke by Purolator. The filters glue came undone and stuck in media. Someone at Purolator should get a bullet for this fail. UN-ACCEPTABLE

OP: what went back on and in? Hopefully no pirolators.

Thank You

Back to the default jobber filter, Baldwin.

That was also mine, I bought two. The test car was a civic used for deliveries. I’ll put the VVT solenoid screen later to check for glue.

Made in USA is great except when it isn't.

I imagine that Skynet is applying the glue (????)...or is it an actual person with Skynet doing quality control?

anyone have an idea?

Sloppy manufacturing. It shouldn't be slathered on the end caps, and if it was, the glue should stay there no matter what over an OCI. Other filters have glue that will not move during use, and is even hard to chip off with the tip of a screw driver or similar tool. It's just pain junk manufacturing and materials being used. Same black glue issue on the Purolator/M+H made Motorcraft filters. Some people have even reported the Motorcraft glue that sheds in use showed up in the drain pan when they did an oil change, so that means it went through the oiling system at some point ... not good.

"Assuming" topic filter installed after the OP similar findings (excess potting) on the same application virgin LX7317 with c&p, 'I'm surprised one would be installed even on someone else's "test" vehicle. "If" not, then more understandable. Clearly an excess potting issue on both LX7317.

We already know the president of purolator is clueless about technical points. Their made in India oil filters , jobber line, look great. The Boss glue is fine and I haven't seen excess of it shown. This is simple administration has failed imo. They have the means not to let filters have glue issues. No one technically minded is watching the production line.
