Proline 14610

While shopping around Pepboys for their M1 w/filter deal, I noticed their Proline oil filters. I checked the filter catalog and it showed that my girl's 2010 Civic uses the 14610, whether it be Proline or Purolator. The thing is, the Purolator version is a little larger than the Proline version. On top of that, Proline also has the 14612 model that is the exact same size as the Proline 14610. I don't see a difference between the two. So my questions are:

1. The Proline 14610 should be fine for the Civic right? 14612 should work too since they look identical?

2. Is Proline still made by Purolator?

I think all of those questions are yes but why buy a thimble like Pro line when you can buy Purolator, with a mail in rebate that will make it less expensive or atleast the same as the Proline/just check Forum on deals.

Afaik the Proline is still made by Puro, easy to campare looking at a Puro base plate. Like Promotive, Group7, QS and PZ it seems that Proline is combining applications using the smaller/shorter application. The Proline likely has less medi and/or is not as efficient as equivalent Puro Classic.

Yes the the 14610/12 should/would both work. That said, I'd stick with the longer 14610 Puro Classic size, especially now with rebate can't be much differnce in price, Classic might be less expensive?

I agree. With the MIR, the Classic will be much better and much more worth it. I just wanted to keep the Proline in mind in case I have to go out and get a cheap filter last minute. Proline can't be worse than a OCOD right?

I run a QS14612 on my 2011 Civic. I get 'em at Menards for $1.99 each.

I ran into the same issue with my wife's CRV. The Proline 14610 was about 1/3 shorter than the Purolator 14610 and I had to take it back because I need every inch to get the filter wrench around it. I think Purolator just shortened the Proline filter to save $ since it is cheaper. I think the Proline 14612 is the same as the Purolator 14610 so go with that if it is available but I doubt it will be.

If so, Proline has the part numbers reversed. The Purolator 14612 is the short version of the 14610.

I think we are both right. The Proline filter is shorter than The Purolator with the same #, but the shorter Purolator 14612 is the same as the Proline 14610.
