I was going on what owner of vehicle said as extra guard. This filter is actually a protec. This one looks to be an Ecotec engine cartridge application. They are known for having post use 'smooshed' appearance. Here it produced angled pleating which resulted in a tear. This phenomenon has been seen in many cartridge brands posted here. Ironically, Protec cartridges in this application have had some good results. All that said, with unknown fci could be a factor too.
I believe so. Trying to tell the owner what filter to use is a losing battle. Thanks for the suggestion. Is that a 2.2/2.4 Ecotec cartridge?
The best filter for that application is the Purflux L264A, which was the original OE filter GM used until they switched suppliers (Hengst now).
I thought the title said Fram EG, not Protec. Wondered if I was losing my mind in old age..... This filter is actually a protec.
French spelling.
I've seen it before but never knew & kind of justified it as Chinese misspelling probably..French spelling.
How many miles were on this filter? I ask because I just ordered 6 from Rock Auto for my Rav4.
