Is that a 2.2/2.4 Ecotec cartridge?

The best filter for that application is the Purflux L264A, which was the original OE filter GM used until they switched suppliers (Hengst now).

The Purflux looks like this

This one looks to be an Ecotec engine cartridge application. They are known for having post use 'smooshed' appearance. Here it produced angled pleating which resulted in a tear. This phenomenon has been seen in many cartridge brands posted here. Ironically, Protec cartridges in this application have had some good results. All that said, with unknown fci could be a factor too.

I was going on what owner of vehicle said as extra guard. This filter is actually a protec.

I believe so. Trying to tell the owner what filter to use is a losing battle. Thanks for the suggestion.

I thought the title said Fram EG, not Protec. Wondered if I was losing my mind in old age. Anyway linked below is a recent Protec Ecotec engine cartridge to which I alluded. Also China coo. Looked great. Many cartridge applications are made there.

I never had any of that when using OEM Hengst filter in my sister’s Cruze. Like other poster said, use the OEM.

The Hengst made ACD cartridge were known to be the preferable choice in replacement cartridges. However, as the link shows even the Hengst ACD came out with pleating looking 'somewhat similar' to topic. Last I saw the Hengst cartridge sold, cap had to be purchased with it.

Terrible that it tore! If posters are indeed correct. I ran a Hengst on my Saturn L200 2.2L & never had any trouble. Just used the OEM plastic cap.

How many miles were on this filter? I ask because I just ordered 6 from Rock Auto for my Rav4.
