And we thought we've seen it all...

Spanish law that went into effect last year allows those citizens suffering from “a sexual identity problem” to undergo hormonal treatment to change their sexual status without drastic surgery or a sex change.

My sexual identity is "a dude that most women don't really want to have sex with" (strange, considering that I'm a dude with almost *four hundred* posts on an internet motor oil forum!

)... Can the Spaniards fix *my* status?!

Why accept anything you have the capability to change? 150 years ago, you had to accept it. Now? Not so much.

Now, involving taxpayers... Zoinks!

They don't have the capability to change what matters though. They can change secondary sexual characteristics, but they can't grow their own testicles/uterus of their own DNA and successfully replace the old equipment. Can they even transplant sex organs from other people?

I dunno - One of my wife's friends is a man "saving up" for a change of that nature. The way he has described it, it is a *long way* from a "real" change (I won't get into too many details!); but it was, at least by his account, much better than nothing.

The article reference by the OP was vague in it's description of this Spanish "law", so I don't know what burden taxpayers bear in these decisions. I am glad that here it is entirely elective, and the party wishing to have the procedure is responsible for the costs. I fully support people's rights to modify their bodies in any way they see fit, but this is not *health care*, in my opinion.

Former high school classmate had it done in his late 30's or early 40's. Track and field ..the Navy. He/she's quite famous in "furries" circles as an artist. I think Japan really did a number on him.

She's got a Wiki page

At the chomosomal level, there is nothing changed...although I expect that somehow they'll be able to change that.
