To the bold above, no it isn't, unless maybe you're in Canada? In the US the Amsoil OE is still substantially more expensive than Royal Purple at Walmart, and the Royal Purple to begin with is overpriced for what you get.

When you're referencing cost of Walmart oil changes, do you mean having them actually change your oil at one of their auto centers? If so, you can't make that comparision of oil versus oil plus labor.

I think it's pretty crappy that their quick lube oil is basically pulling a fast one on people. People see Amsoil signage and assume it's a top-tier product, because their marketing pushes themselves as the synthetics leader, but really they were/are getting a lower quality product. It's like if Mobil 1 had a secret quick lube specific brew of "Mobil 1", instead of calling it Mobil Special. Just my opinion.

And like you said, it's a compliant oil, nothing more, nothing less. Then why would a customer pay twice the price of other oils that reach the same performance targets? They're riding the coattails of the name.

All six posts in this thread from your thoughts on some simple tests? What exactly did you expect to see in this VOA that would have made this oil seem of value?

People know it's not the top tier and the price is not 2X.

First of all, no, the Amsoil is only $7.49/quart after you pay them at least $10 for a temporary "membership".

Nobody needs to pay a fee to unlock lower pricing on SOPUS products or similar. That's a gimmick.

And what are you seeing that I'm not? Because the Quaker State that I linked is $23.98 for a 5 quart jug. That's only $4.80/quart.
 
Even buying OE by the gallon is still $9.80/quart. If I buy their $10 membership I save $10.20. Great. I know the membership is time based and so the more product you buy, the more you put your membership to use, but that is to rope you into an age-old "buy more, save more" sales tactic, and the product even with the discount is priced uncompetitvely regardless.

What answer are you looking for that you haven't already gotten? It's simple. This is a basic, no frills, "jobber" synthetic oil. Lots of other oils like this exist on the market, to fulfill this same niche. Except this one costs substantially more, because it has a certain brand name on it. Buying this oil is a foolish waste of money imo. I'm not saying it's a "bad" oil. I would totally run this oil with confidence, of course. But I wouldn't buy it to begin with over Mobil 1, Pennzoil, etc, because it presents apparently nothing worth the extra coin.

Ok but again 3rd time what in the PQIA data would please you? What numbers would you like to see ? You are obviously making a judgement based on the report ?

I'm not looking for a specific quantity of any one component within the VOA. That's pointless since every oil is the product of it's entire formulation and not all components appear on a VOA anyway, nor am I a tribologist. I'm comparing this oil against other commodity Dexos approved oils, of which there are many to choose from.

Question for you: Why should I buy Amsoil OE over Mobil 1?

Yes it is! I paid $32.15 for 5 quarts delivered to my door, including sales tax. The Royal Purple at WalMart is $37.56 before tax. Adding sales tax in my area puts the Royal Purple at $40.19. That's a huge difference.

I posted what I paid for 4 gallons of OE shipped to my door, all inclusive (came to $32.15 for a comparative 5 quart quantity), and yet you still come on here and with your argument. Some people on this site are simply unreal.

And I paid $27.76 for five quarts of Pennzoil Platinum Euro L. That comes out to $5.55 a quart. This oil has the demonstrated and proven performance of a dexos2 license, BMW Longlife-04 and Mercedes-Benz 229.51 approvals and is ACEA C3. About as universal an oil as it gets.

And if I don’t want to wait for delivery I can go into any nearby Walmart and pick it up off the shelf for the same price.

The discussion with Cheesepuffs2 was regarding his publishing of Royal Purple with the link to the WalMart price. He then made the claim that it was less expensive than the Amsoil. That is what my reply was to and my reply showed that it wasn't. It has nothing to do with Pennzoil or any other product from Walmart. Why that was introduced into this particular discussion is questionable.

However, since you brought it up, and Mobil-1 had been compared, my local WalMart charges $29.97 for a 5 quart container of M-1 5W-30. When taxes are applied it comes to $32.07. That is a whopping $0.08 less than what I paid for the Amsoil. Eight cents! I suspect the Pennzoil would be a similar transaction.

Why on earth do you people get wrapped around the axle because somebody posted a PQIA link to a Amsoil OE test? What is your problem? If you don't use then so be it. From not knowing the meaning of "boutique" to lying about costs... it's like talking to a politician.

Show me the path of how you got to your pricing, and be sure to include membership fees if they were required, or a special discount that needs to be unlocked by a salesperson.

I'm not lying, nor am I confused about the meaning of boutique. I said this is not a boutique oil.

You are the one who seems to be getting wrapped up, not me. The reason I brought this oil up is because it is a product that gives demonstrated performance at a very good price point. It has an actual dexos2 license and verifiable manufacturer approvals.

Brand name and other ancillary considerations are meaningless to me.
