PP 5w30 vs 5w20

Would PP5w30 be ok in a 2001 Taurus with a 5w20 recomendation in a 3L Duratec engine?

I'd run what was spec'd but a 5-30 wont "hurt" your motor....may drag your MPG down a tad....But I would run 5-20 in that motor myself.

Experience shows that 5w20 would do just fine:
10K OCI @ 150K
10K OCI @ 160K

I'm only considering the 5w30 because it's on sale at Walmart for $18.47 for a 4.7 liter (5 US quart) jug. But no 5w20 except for 1 liter bottles at $7.12 per liter!

That is a pretty good reason to go with the 5w30. There are no auto parts stores around that have sales going on with oil? If not then I wouldnt see a problem running the 30weight if it is cheaper to buy it in bulk

That engine was speced for 5w30 to begin with before Ford CAFE'd their way to 5w-20. I have the same engine and run anywhere from 5w-20 to 5w30 to 10w-30.

I ran 5w30 in my 99 Taurus with excellent results (my UOAs were great when there was no coolant. Even with the coolant, the wear metals were low).

Mostly SL oil back then.

5w30 will be fine in your engine. Use it without worry.

Either way is great and the price difference is good enough reason.
