2017 Ram Hemi 5w20 to 5w30?

But, seriously. Two Thousand and Eight.

OP hasn't responded. Good job, you spooked him. Now we won't hear from him until 2042!

I’m sure there are.

Probably in the same places as the Toyota electric oil pump that’s calibrated for a 20-grade.

I have run Mobil 1 0w-40 with no engine lights in my 2013 Ram 1500 HEMI. I’m currently running Mobil Super Synthetic 5w-30 and a bottle of HPL EC 30. Engine wasn’t overly noisy before, but is even quieter with the HPL. Last time I used it, I had to rev the engine a bit to hear that it was still running. I’ll start with VRP 5w-30 on my next oil change.

I have an 05 with a 180k and I started using a thicker oil at 100k. It doesn't seem to matter. Maybe after it hits 200k I will switch it over to straight 30w lawnmower oil. 😁

I ran multiple brands of 5w30 in my 2012 Hemi without issue. It seemed quieter and smoother than when I used 5w20. If I ever end up with another 5.7 Hemi it will absolutely see 5w30.

one point to note, there are thinner 5w-30 oils (like pennzoil platinium) and thicker 5w-30 oils like the euro versions, read and learn the specs and compair to your needs.

the Pennzoil Platinium 5w-30 SQ,Gf-7 5w-30 is 9.8 @100c and 53.9 @ 40c,,I think the reasoning is the resource conserving ( RC spec) ,the Euro oils do not have the RC spec, and they have a higher hths rating, that is related to the thicker viscosity ,but still in conformance to the J-300 chart so it seems.

This is on the shelf right now. What happens with Gf-7 is not our concern right now.

I have 2017 Ram 5.7 Hemi and just reached 100,000 miles. I will be doing my own oil changes now that the extended warranty has ended. I want to switch from 5w20 to 5w30? Will it set off the “check engine light?” Will the engine explode? Lol Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.
I went to 5w-30 and my 2019 RAM never noticed it. I even posted the engine data before and after.
