5w20 or 5w30 for MDX Type S (Turbo J30AC engine).

There are many differences between Mexico and the specified oil that would affect the specified oil.
What are those differences? How is it different in Arizona/Texas and Mexico ? You mentioned word “specified”, have you even looked into Acura owner manual? There is no such wording for oil, they use “recommended viscosity”

No. As long as the oil can be pumped it will flow. Pumpability is demonstrated by the winter rating.

The engine will not benefit from a lower viscosity oil in any way except fuel consumption. People keep trying with all these supposed benefits from thinner oils but they just aren’t there.
I believe my professional experience as a powertrain engineer and my experimentation with different viscosities in motorsport tell me otherwise. Oil flow and thermal management through oil viscosity are very important. In fact, wear is mostly addressed through additive packages, not really viscosity. I've spent part of my career developing oil change intervals and specifying oils, and I've seen cases where lower-viscosity lubricants actually reduce wear.

Sounds like you are waving your hands.

Thanks for digging out the owner's manual. I see the note that 0w-20 is better for fuel efficiency and that it is suitable for the broadest temperature ranges. What I don't see is any mention of which oil to use for best engine wear or longevity...

My hand waving is simply some of the key metrics that are looked at when speccing an oil.

0w-20 is better for fuel efficiency, that is all. This engine runs fine on both grades, but Xw-30 was removed for North America due to CAFE. They have to list only the most fuel efficient oil in the manual. All these talks about fuel and ambient temperatures are nonsense to justify CAFE
