PP 0W20 vs M1 AFE 0W20

The V.O.A.s of 0w-20 ( S.P.-GF-6A ) are from P.Q.I.A.. The U.O.A. of the MOBIL1 A.F.E. 0w-20 ( S.P.-GF-6A ) is from a TUNDRA site .

Does PP have better base oil (GTL)?

GTL is supposed to have less wax.

With AFE I see some sludge particles on the dipstick. Although less than with Honda 0W20 when my car was dealer serviced. In that instance they change the filter every other OCI so there is a cup of old oil remaining in a filter. I don't know if it's apples to apples, but M1 should be an upgrade over Honda.

So I was looking at PP to see whether it is an upgrade.

From the VOA it looks like PP is a more modern formulation, although AFE has Boron.

Another 5 month old resurrected thread. Never liked either of these - but I would prefer M1 over the PP as everything that got PP in the past had oil usage and meh to yuck performance. Would prefer the real synthetic M1 EP of a couple years ago.
YMMV.

10w30 syn FTW !

Really? I've run mostly M1 for years, including AFE in my GF's engine (8k to 10k OCI) and I've never once seen sludge particles of any kind on the dipstick, in the filter, or anywhere. In fact, I've not seen that with any brand of oil I've ever used. I'd be bothered by what might be going on in my engine, if I saw that.

But why use AFE over EP ever? Especially if priced ~ the same?
I'd choose EP all day if priced the same, but I've had great UOA's with AFE, so really no worries there. I'd say I run EP 90% of the time in my Jeeps' 3.6 engines. I've run AFE the last two OCI's in my GF's Compass 2.4 because I think it was $2 cheaper per jug at those moments. I think EP was $26.9X and AFE was $24.9X at Wallyworld. I'm probably going to buy for my next change and will go with AFE if $2 cheaper. I should probably flip it and run the EP in her's. I do 5k OCI's and she does 8k to 10k. But hers are all gentle highway miles. I run my engines harder...towing or just spirited driving (manual Wrangler....It's just fun).

For me it's easier to find AFE on sale. AFE $35 vs $42 EP. Reg price is $52 vs $59. PP reg price is $40, $35 on sale.

Practically speaking these are fake sales, and regular price is just a rip-off price.

If I am not extending the OCI I am not sure I should spend the extra $7.

I am interested in learning more about the formulation differences.

Use both for the FIT . No difference in performance . Just changed out from MOBIL1 A.F.E. 0w-20 ( S.P.,GF-6A ) w/ FRAM Titanium FS7317 ( w/o wire mesh ) to P.P. 0w-20 ( S.P., GF-6A ) w/ MOBIL1 M1-110A oil filter . Next will likely to be P.U.P. 0w20 w/ CARQUEST Premium 84356 or FRAM FS7317 ( w/o mesh ) . Another reason to buy the P.P. is due to the $25 rebate that's like to getting a second 5 quart jug for free . Walmart has 0w-20 , 5w-20 and 5w-30 5 quart jug for $23.92 .
PP 0w-20 is closer to a 30 weight oil I'd use that between the two.

M1 bottles have a protective seal, PP does not. With M1 I haven’t seen detergents sitting at the bottom of the jug like I have for PP.

Both are good, you’re splitting hairs. But from my experience of the two oil, I’d go with M1.

Bases on the Valvoline R & P threads sludge particles means the oil is cleaning and is actually desirable.
