Powered Anode Rod for Water Heater-- the real deal or snake oil?

I had the rotten egg smell in a new Whirlpool electric water heater I installed in our beach house in 2015. It started about 6 months after installing it. I replaced the anode with this one from Amazon....

Took care of the problem in about 24 hours or less.
I used two fully charged batteries on my Ryobi impact driver to loosen the OEM one. Getting a breaker bar in a water heater closet is difficult.
I flush it every year or so and it's still working fine.

100% works. It generally happens if you’ve softened water. I installed one about 10 yrs ago and switched it over to a new heater last year. You can also install a small filter housing, minus the filter before the heater and fill it with peroxide whenever it starts stinking. It usually last a few months and the your doing it again. The pre filter is easier than removing the anode to add peroxide. I did both and the anode was one and done. The only issue I had was removing the anode on my new heater. I swear a 900 lb gorilla with a 10 foot breaker installed it. It took a prayer and my nephews 3/4 Milwaukee impact that he uses to install bolts on his bridge building crew to get the old out.

That's wild. Were the tanks new? I was hoping to loosen and retighten the anode rod on my next tank before installation to make it easier to service later on.

Brand new. It wouldn’t budge empty, so filled it half way, and then full with no luck. I tried everything I could throw at it and it just laughed. My nephew showed up with a Milwaukee impact that they use it to drive lags doing bridgework. At that point, it was going to come out, or the water heater was going to be destroyed. I have a Kobalt xtr that claims 1200lbs in reverse (probably actually 1/3 of that) is true, nothing, 5 foot breaker bar and nada. I don’t know what they did at the factory but it was in there. I initially installed it in a 10 yard old heater and it took a ratchet and small breaker bar, nothing like this new one took.
