I picked up a gallon of this Poulan Pro bar oil at Walmart for $7.97 (same price as their Super Tech brand) but haven't used it yet:

However, I noticed the PP has just a faint motor oil smell.

On the other hand, the ST bar oil has a distinct sulfur odor, much like gear lube. Also, a little on the thin side but probably good for winter use. Nothing like the Oregon bar oil I just finished up, that stuff was thick.

I have not used it in many years. When i did, i seem to remember its was a lot lighter( lower viscosity) than other bar and chain oils.

Iuseleft over trans oil from my tractor for the chain saw and it beats paying the per gallon cost of the bar and chain oil.

I just took the spark plug out of my 85CC Husqvarna chain saw today and put a new $1,200 65CC 28" bar under it. Replacement for the old one is $1,700.
Saving money on 2-stroke and bar oil doesn't compute. For the 1st time in 35 years I bought Husqvarna 2-stroke oil for the free extended warranty program.
I use Petro-Canada non-drip 220 or 150 for the bar. www.fergusonequip.com (That's forest fire smoke from last year in the photo.)
The new owners gave me 2 free hats & a few other throw-in's.

For what bar oil costs I just go buy the Oregon stuff and use it, I switch to winter weight in cold weather. It's not like it's $35/gal, for $8 I'll use the proper oil and save money on bars and chains and not risk killing the oil pump on the saw. Not that any of those are hard to change but it's so easy to just use the right stuff and flip the bar over every few sharpenings.

Well it depends what they have as a leftover......tank of used engine oil...or tank of used ATF/gearbox oil......or mix of all leftovers from the service shops....

Then this mix is cleaned and tackifies are added....and EP/AW pack for chain oil....

I noticed that on one brand of cheepo chainoil I am buying here.....once oil was brown in colour with normal smell ( normal for chainsaw oil).....and on otehr batch oil was a little green in colour with distinctive sulfur smell

IDK as long as it lubes my chain adequately
