Yeah. I tried using a cap from my gear oil container. Didn’t work out so well. And had trouble removing clamp and hose. Next time it will be easier.Done last week or so, 2020 Tundra flushed out and replaced with LubeGard 23232 Full Syn MVF power steering fluid. Took about 3 quarts. Used a Harbor Freight HOLT pneumatic brake bleed unit (SKU 57057) hooked into the return line and plugged the reserviour with one of these doo-dads https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08R97W7W6?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1 Took about 15 minutes and was the easiest exchange I have ever done. The siphon hose connecter fit in there like it was made for 3/8 inch line. No mess at all.
I’ve been using Mercon V in a 2007 (no longer own) and 2010 Tacoma and a 2016 4Runner for years. I suck out the reservoir at every oil change and refill. I’ve tried several different ATFs, including Maxlife and I like Mercon V the best. I used to use Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF in my 2007 Tacoma, but now I usually just use Supertech Mercon V as it’s fairly cheap and readily available. I used to pull the return line and flush them, but now I just suck out the reservoir with an oil extractor and refill them at each oil change. The fluid stays looking like new, plus I figure that’s way more maintenance than most of them get.Yes. Toyota part number 00718-ATF00. About $12.50 per quart at my local Toyota dealer. (Not the same as Toyota ATF WS fluid…which goes in the gx460 transmission).
There early Tundra PS systems are so easy to clush. The return line is right there; I use my MityVac.Son's 2002 Tundra. Had dealership flush it a year ago when he first got it (very short on time then). They put some sort of ATF in. Started to get slightly dark (probably cleaning).
Put in Lubegard PS additive and ran that for a while. That seemed to do some good cleaning.
Have been removing about 8oz. from reservoir every week and adding Lubegard Syn PS fluid. Just about 1 quart in now. So far so good.
