Post Your Latest Power Steering Fluid Change

A few weeks ago a leaking power steering line was replaced. I had the system drained and flushed at that time using a Dexron fluid. The Camry had about 93,000 miles on the clock. The system was also drained and flushed about three years ago, shortly after I purchased the car. It should be good for a while ;)

1994 Freightliner Cabover
Out: no idea, looked dark, smelled like engine oil. Didn't see a # on the filter.
In: Roughly 3 quarts Schaeffer 700 15w40, with around a quart of Schaeffer 132. Fleetguard LF634 filter

Also replaced all of the hoses and had the rusty reservoir blasted and powder coated back to black. It was in terrible shape and looks brand new now.

My newly-acquired 2011 Grand Marquis. 177,xxx miles. P/S was making groaning noises and had a slight shudder. Fluid looked dark, but not awful. After 3 turkey-baster drain & fills with fresh Mercon V, it's now quiet and smooth. Will do another d & f at the next engine oil change.

ATF is next.

In Supertech HM atf

That sucker was screaming before I switched out the fluid, good and quiet for now. Hopefully this will band aid it for a few years, not sure how longer the owner will still be driving.

Did one more hit of the PS on my daughter's car this last weekend to help ensure we are well past the Dex 6 TSB risk before winter (orig post).
We pulled and refilled 1 quart Amsoil ATL. Should be set for a long time on this one.
It has been a couple years since this last suck/fill on my daughter's car power steering.

Did it again yesterday for one quart Amsoil ATL.

It looks like it is keeping up OK. The out fluid color was just a bit darker than the fresh. In the original suck/fill a few years ago, the fluid was notably thick-ish and was amber/brown, not red, so I don't know if that was even Dex6. What came out this time was still a bit thicker than fresh, it seemed.

2007 Focus 210,000 miles. I do 5,000 OCI. With each OCI I use a small pump to empty the PS tank and refill with Mercon V. Had other vehicles racks fail in the past, so I thought I would try this on the Focus. Rack has been flawless so far.

When I first buy a used car the brake fluid in the master cylinder gets sucked out and replaced along with the ps fluid. I use large syringes you can get off ebay cheap. Have been refilling my ps with hydraulic oil for over 30 years in all different brands with never any problems and have never had one I had done go out or leak either. After all it is just a hydraulic pump
