Some manufacturers call for ATF in their PS systems. Others call for regular PS fluid. What's the real difference? Ford calls for ATF. Last time I turkey bastered the wife's Taurus I refilled with ATF. But I run Valvoline SynPower Power Steering Fluid in my Camaro. I have also seen people run the Valvoline Power Steering Fluid in their Ford Escorts in lieu of ATF, and everything ran fine.
How interchangable are these? Can you run ATF in a GM power steering pump? Can you run Valvoline SynPower Power Steering Fluid in a Ford?
It sure would simplify things if I could just have one type of PSF for both cars. I'd prefer to run the SynPower in both cars if the Taurus would not object.
Opinions?
