Post Your Latest Power Steering Fluid Change

Power steering rack came out, due to it leaking to start so i flushed it gradually via a leak that took it down several inches in a 2003 OHV Taurus with the 90s ford power steering fluid container. entire container drained when the mechanic dropped out the rack, so it got refilled with what i brought as they just moved to a new location, and have not gotten all their supplies set back up

Out: God knows what

In: Supertech Dex/Mercon. Pump sounds the same, no leaks.

2005 Suburban Z-71 w/ 99k miles

Factory Out

6 quarts Flushed w/ what I had in garage

In this order:

2 qts Prestone PSF, 2 qts Pyroil PSF (GM spec), 2 qts Valvoline Maxlife PSF

I mainly flushed because the P/S system makes a groaning noise sometimes in the parking lot or driveway between 1000-2000rpm's.

After flush, noise did not go away. Some days there is no noise at all.

Others, it will do it a coulpe times per day at low speeds.

Pulled 100ml (most of the reservoir), and replaced, drove the car, then jacked the front, turned wheel a dozen or so times, then replaced another 100ml. Went great, sounds and feels great.

Edit: About 20k on the car. I'll probably do 100ml with every oil change now, just so a full flush is never necessary.

Replaced old Honda PSF with new Honda PSF. Removed about 75% of 0.9 qt capacity with detachment of return hose and 3X lock-to-lock turn of steering wheel.

Mobil 1 ATF in my 2008 Milan and 1997 Ranger.
Sucked out the reservoirs and refilled. Do this once or twice a year when I get bored and want to do something under the hood.

2002 Toyota Rav4 2WD; 131,000 mi; 26 Oct 2012.
Replaced old original (?) PSF with Valvoline MaxLife Dex/Merc ATF. Aspirated reservoir, replaced it with new fluid, detached return hose, and collected outflow of 3X lock-to-lock turn of steering wheel with pump running.

I thought I was the crazy one using ATF in a GM PS system.

02 Chevy 1500 5.3L - Valvoline Dexron VI, turkey baster method.

That's the way to go!

All 4 of my Vehicles use Amsoil ATF in the PS system and all of my vehicles for decades as well!

Out: Factory fill/possible incorrect fluid from previous owner.
In: 0.8L of Pentosin CHF11S.

Steering quality increased and pump noise decreased noticeably.

I changed the P/S fluid in a few of my parents' vehicles today.

All were using the Turkey Baster method and all were refilled with Maxlife ATF. Siphon counts are guesses. I just kept going until the fluid looked close to new ATF color. I am not sure when the fluid was changed last on these cars. None of the vehicles were making PS pump noises or had any noticeable problems.

2000 Mercury Villager Esate @ 96,670 Miles.
4x siphon and fill (at least). Fluid was very dark and smelled burnt. Steering feels smoother/easier now. No noise change.

2002 Subaru WRX Wagon @ 149,107 Miles
4x siphon and fill. Fluid was also dark and smelled burnt. The fluid did not look as bad as the other two vehicles. I don't think steering felt much different than before.

2006 BMW 325ci (e46 coupe) @ 37,088 Miles
5x siphon and fill. Fluid was very dark. Steering feels lighter. I'm almost positive this was the factory fill.
