Post your latest parts purchase

I stumbled on this rotor on FB MP for $15. It appears to fit '11-19 GM 8-lug trucks. It's partially coated. I don't presently service an '11+ but a new 8-lug rotor for $15 is an easy call

Also stumbled on a 6203-2rs at TSC for $6.39. I probably wouldn't use it in a road tripper but in one of my non-profit's older trucks or my beater F150 fo sho

Two rear brake rotors for moms Camry in the black boxes. SilentStop. Never used the brand but the parts guy at work says he uses them on his car and it’s usually what he gets if we need aftermarket rotors unless we ask for something else so I figured I’d give them a try. They are coated too. We can only keep rotors for RAV4 and Highlander and Corolla and occasionally Prius in stock at work. They are very picky on what we have in stock and try to push us to sell rotor machining which some of them you can’t because they are so bad. Toyota bases your parts inventory on the size of the dealership building so they say anyway. So I couldn’t get factory rotors same day. No point in fancy rotors anyway in my opinion. Already have the pads it’s getting Napa SilentGuard pads. I don’t use factory Toyota pads because they are cheap and won’t include shims or hardware and that stuff should never be reused so I don’t give them my money.

Then the GM parts are for a 2014 Chevy Silverado used car I’m working on at work. I’m making so much bank off of used cars needing stuff. I also have a Nissan used car I’m working on too.

I've lamented elsewhere that vacuum elbows are nearly impossible to find. I needed them for GMT800 washer lines at the cowl.

I made do but wanted to try to source elbows for the future. I ordered these but I doubt the clear plastic is UV stabilized. These were generic no-name Chinese and I think they might be intended more so for aquariums or similar.

Picked up a bit of materials for welding projects. 96 square feet of 3/16's plate, 80 square feet of aluminum 3/16 diamond plate ($$$), 80 feet of 3/16th 5 inch C channel, about 60 feet of 11 gauge 2x4 square tubing. Not pictured, aluminum grating, and about 12 square feet of galvanized grating. All recycled materials from a worksite being demolished/rebuilt. DM me if you are interested in the N Austin area, plenty left from the seller and its easily 70% off retail.

For my 2023 Sienna. How much can I expect to pay for labor?

Depends is it dealer or independent shop? My dealer has brakes menu priced so it’s $150 to do pads and replace rotors. If you replace pads and machine rotors it’s $189.99. That’s just labor. But is there a reason why you’re replacing them? These days Toyota brake pads last forever.

I tend to bill ~1.5 hours for discs per axle (drums more), but that's on the low end in this area. Plus I don't add in nonsense disposal fees or shop supply fees (although the latter has some validity because brake clean, shop towels, gloves and silicone grease ain't free these days)

If you don't have slider pin boots there it might be worth sourcing them or if the shop has to wait on parts or source parts they might charge you more. Or they'll be annoyed at customer-supplied parts and just reuse torn boots or even rusty slider pins reasoning "we're paid to install EXACTLY what we were supplied."

I don’t know about labor. But, how many miles and is it most city/highway on your Sienna? I have 120k on OEM brakes on my Camry, more than 50% life remaining to go, just curious.

32k. I don’t question anyone sticking with OEM anything. I’ve wanted an upgrade from the very get go. However, I’ve sped up the upgrade since the price was right and I’m experiencing a surge/slipping problem even with a TSB applied. It may or may not solve this problem. But it did for someone else so I’m giving it a try.

New rear slide pins and new bolts for the rear brake caliper one side on mom’s car. The rear brakes are original and I imagine they will be seized just like the fronts were so I got some to have just in case. Had to go to the brand new AutoZone in the ultra hood to get these. That AutoZone and the OReilly all the way on the other side of town were the only ones in 50 miles who had them so that’s why we came here and I try not to give business to O’Reilly if I can help it. Also got some M8x1.25 bolts in case the rotors are stuck. I always put anti seize behind the rotors to avoid that happening again but I don’t keep metric hardware on hand because I just don’t use it enough at home to keep it.

Are those bolts the standard size for Toyota rotors? I have an 06 Scion tC and haven't ever had to use the bolts to remove the rotor, but wouldn't hurt to have them in my toolbox. If M8-1.25 bolts are what would fit my brake rotors, I'll get some, replacing the brakes here soon.. let me know..

Yes M8x1.25 is the standard size for Toyota rotors. It’s so nice having the bolts instead of having to hit it off.

thanks for the info.. (y)good timing for your info, close to doing the entire brake job, I'll get some of those bolts. and yeah I agree it's nice to do the bolt method instead of whacking on it, knowing my aim I'll hit something I shouldn't! lol
