2019 Cherokee Limited. Inspection at purchase noticed a cracked rear differential. Dealer replaced that and the left rear CV axle assembly. Ever since I’ve had a wobble or vibration from somewhere. Assumed it was the tires for a while. Moving them around didn’t change anything. I could hear random scraping, which appeared to be the right rear rotor. Replaced, the new rotor also did that. OK so it must be the wheel bearing... Replaced that and it got better. For a while. Now the wobbling and vibration is starting again.

I’m suspecting the right rear CV axle could be causing this. It’s the same side as the damage to the original differential. Can CV axles wobble like that? It’s not showing the standard symptoms like clicking. It does make some noise when I push on it. Is some noise acceptable when you wiggle the CV axle? It’s not leaking. I’m asking because it’s not a simple replacement. Nothing on this vehicle is easy. Any feedback would be helpful thanks.

Typically bad CVs will cause weirdness under throttle. Unfortunately this is usually FWD and will present as steering wheel oscillation. I've never encountered a rear CV with any symptoms other than a torn boot?

Do the AD1 units get a "center diff" lock of any kind? It would be interesting to see if trying to apply more consistent power to the rear exacerbates the problem.

Did the replacement shaft look OEM, or did the dealer toss in a parts house special?

And yeah, I personally think the KLs are not that easy to work on. Just wait for radiator replacement ;) And get some wheel hangers for the lug bolt situation.

Definitely. Used to have a 15 KL that had both front CVs replaced under warranty for a "wobble". there was a TSB for it, but it was the fronts only and older ones. Also had a Renegade that after lifting it had a wobble as well from the increased angle.

Was it a Jeep dealer? Did they use a Mopar CV or a remanned OEM one? Those are better, the new aftermarket ones are sometimes the wrong length and can have issues.

Put it in sand/mud mode and see if it gets worse. that should be a 50/50 power bias IIRC. Sport might be 40/60 f/r so maybe even better to test.

Was this from a Jeep dealer or another dealer?
Purchased used with 49K from a Jeep dealer. They missed the cracked differential. I found it at home the first day. They felt bad about it so they fixed it immediately. But it’s always had a wobble and I assumed it was cheap tires. The axle is all that’s left. I have a warranty, but it’s the burden of proof. How do I prove that that’s what’s wrong?

Have them prove it's not. There is a diag process they go through. They may charge a fee upfront to inspect, but would be refundable if they find a warrantable issue.
