Post your engine oil fill hole & under valve cover photos

My 04 Expedition 5.4l 2v w 192k on it, put 10k on it since we bought last year from older retired couple. They had it thoroughly maintained by dealer every 3k miles, he was a truck driver and believed in 3k oci. Tad bit of varnish, have HPL EC and Valvoline EP 5w30 in it that should clean up nicely View attachment 112568
If you continue to change the oil AND FILTER every 3-5K miles those cam phasers will always love you. ;)

The W202, 210k km, 15k km intervals with synthetic from new to around 130k and then a diet of anything on sale with 8k km intervals.

The W124, 130k km, dino or semi synthetic from new, 5 to 10k km intervals.

At least BigShug’s thread has at least a smattering of what this site purports to cater to… oil and its results in use. I used to be on this board every day, but after seeing roughly 80% of the daily new threads having absolutely nothing to do with oil, and only slightly more even deal with ICEs, I left. I occasionally check back in just to see if anybody sane has resumed control, but then I always seem to find people complaining about things that this site used to be famous for.

Some of you ninnies even complain about guys like ‘53 Stude who C&Ps other peoples filters, on his own time, FOR FREE. Do everyone a favor and just stick your heads back in the sand, since not even data will convince you.

I'll play along...Legend @ 438532 miles (repost). Maintenance records (since the car was new) show an abundance of 10w-40, 10w-30 Castrol GTX and Valvoline, both dino. Image is the PCV side of the engine. The other side looks similar. When I got the car at 274642 miles, I switched to Delo 15w40.

Lots of varnish (meh), some gritty looking stuff on the bearing cap, a funny looking lobe. This was the second attempt at sealing the (obvious) leak. It's still shows leakage. I think it's coming from the bearing caps at the ends of the camshaft.

That's an interesting valvetrain, I assume it's a 24 valve C27A? Curious how the valves are actuated on the opposite sides (intake/exhaust) given that the cam seems centrally located-- are there rocker arms of some sort underneath that aren't visible in the photo?

This thread was met with some resistance at first, some people just look to complain I guess, but I really just enjoy seeing engines at different stages of life with different maintenance histories just always seems so intriguing

I will attempt to post a photo of the inside of my 2015 Acura 3.5L, @ 115k, new to me vehicle, Carfax doesn't show hardly anything for maintenance. Looking down the fill hole, all I see is shiny aluminum. Someone did short OCIs bc I don't even see varnish inside.

First 120k miles were conventional every 5k. Since 120k, it's been full syn every 6-8k depending on usage, mostly M1 but a few Valvoline syn and PP runs in there. Now at 180k odometer miles. These pics were taken around 172k. Sorry I have no pics of the valve cover or fill hole, but everything is pretty clean for the mileage. Someone has commented they see chatter on the cam lobes but there are no issues. It runs perfect.

4 yrs ago we bought this 07 Yukon Denali w/all aluminum 6.2L used w/130k miles. The pvc system is built into the valve cover. PO hadn't changed to the new improved valve cover design, so the engine was sucking a lot of oil into the intake and burning it. Piston oil control rings were stuck.
