Yep! It's crazy how weird this engine drains oil. It seems about 5 qts come out right away, but I've learned that if I leave it draining and go do something else, over the course of about an hour, another 2 qts will drain out. And I always drain hot oil that just been driven ~20 miles.2008 Volvo XC90 3.2L | 6.5 qts. 5w-40 & 1.5 qts. 0w-40 Mobil Euro FS | 0 Miles (just changed oil) | 129,139 Miles Total
Manual calls for 7.70 quarts but with 8 quarts this is halfway below the upper top X on my level concrete garage left overnight. @himemsys I used car ramps to change the oil so maybe it got all the oil out? Do you use ramps to drain?

Yes, in many cases engine oil is actually dyed to achieve the light golden hue that we're accustomed to, so that you can read the level on the stick. Are there any synthetic oils which start off clear? Mobile 1, Supertech, Castrol and Valvoline all start off a bit yellowish.
Pretty sure it's the additives added into the oil that give it their color not a dye. Unless you're speaking about Royal Purple etc. that intentionally dye them unique colors but that isn't the majority.Yes, in many cases engine oil is actually dyed to achieve the light golden hue that we're accustomed to, so that you can read the level on the stick.
No, I mean that Pennzoil literally says the have to dye Platinum because it's otherwise too water clear.Pretty sure it's the additives added into the oil that give it their color not a dye. It's been discussed on this very forum for years. Here, scroll down to post number 5. Molekule has addressed it on here before: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/oil-color-with-different-brands.304715/Where did they say that? Link?
