Post a photo of your oil on dipstick (with miles)

Maybe it's my screen but where is the other mark? I see maybe down in dipstick tube? If so a bit overfilled but I'd rather be a bit higher than low.

My Accord is at 4600 miles, 1/2 way between marks. Like my sons Forte I'll probably just change it instead of adding 1/2 for 500 miles. So far I added 1.25qts over the 4600 miles. Might have to change PCV again as it was done about 50k ago, or it's just me driving a stick shift and revving higher.
The Accord dipstick 4612 on the oil, Will be 111k on motor by the time I finish food shopping. 1.25qts added over the time. Chenge dit this afternoon.

 🔼🔼🔼 What MrBaumTastic said. We hope that you are OK. That really sucks.

I got the car back to my garage, thankfully my spare oil bottles in the trunk didnt get crushed too bad. Im thinking of pulling the filter and posting a CnP as a farwell service. Car maintance and mods was a passion project over many years of service. Car still drives like a champ after all this...

Buy it back for from the insurance company for pennies on the dollar and make it an oil test bed.

Maybe but if i can rather get a replacement car model of near or same year as this one. Its the most bulletproof problem free car i have ever owned.

Anyways pulled the filter and put in back an OEM YZZN1 i had sitting around.

That's a lot of magnetic attraction.... :ROFLMAO:

Some things for the buyout to consider. You can always scrap it yourself afterward through something like Peddle.com. I got more for a couple cars (not totaled but mechanical issues) than if I was taking to local junkyard or scrap metal/car recycle.

If you do find something very close you would have a bunch of spare stuff to take off and keep if you wanted.

I bought out my wrecked Corolla which cost me maybe $250 iirc and they took it from the total loss payout. so if $3k is total collision payout, I got $2750. The big things for me was I was able to keep and resell my almost brand new winter tires. I could take my stereo system and lights out. After that on ToyotaNation I sold over $2k in parts to others to help them and keep my pride going in others, like organ donation when you pass. I looked at some parts online and from Junkyards and said give me 1/2 of that and I'll ship it if possible. You'd be amazed what sold off of it. After all said and done I still scrapped it for almost $600 based on weight.

1808 miles on current fill: PUP 10W30

Just added 8 oz. of M1 10W30 to top-up.

Seems that running Techron and Rislone during the last 800 miles of the prior OCI, changing the PCV valve, and moving to 10W30 PUP may have actually worked to reduce oil consumption. At this rate, I'll be using less than a quart over 5K miles. I'm crossing my fingers...

I'm at around 3000 miles driven on my third oil change with the Valvoline Restore and Protect (5W30). First picture is the dipstick from yesterday, checked on a warm engine. Second picture is my oil consumption tracker (Trip A) so it's been nearly 600 miles since adding a full quart.

I didn't top off want with any oil because I want to see how many miles I can drive before it gets passed low. But what would you estimate the oil consumption is based on this?

I'm thinking about 1qt/1200 miles.

Did you buy this car from a dealer? If so, given that it was not too long ago, is there anyway they can assist via a warranty?

The engine? What else?
Idk, there's nothing wrong with it, not now especially since the Valvoline Restore and Protect reduced my oil consumption. Everything else about it is fine, very good actually, that's why we liked it and got it.

I asked about oil consumption when shopping but the dealer was unsure. I rolled the dice on it, given that I dealt with this before on a 2017 Hyundai Sonata I bought used with 25k miles back in 2019. It didn't use oil at first, but sometime after 50k miles, it started at would continue until 93k miles when it was totalled. It used as much as 1 qt per 500 miles for more than half of the time it started consuming oil, but it was less at the time of the accident.

If your 2.4 dipstick uses the same scale as that of my 2018 Kia Soul 2.0, the range between L and F is a liter of oil. If this is the case, it looks like you're on track for using a quart at around 1000-1100 miles.

I think about this thread every time I check my oil. The dipstick in my Jetta is black, so you can't really tell anything from a picture of it.
