It was slimy and reminded me of gooey brownines.

It was a joke. No oil or flush would have any effect on that type of deposit.
Was it dry like road tar or was it slimy or exactly what was the consistency.
Just shows the quality of the oil in those days.
It shows how well an engine was manufactured because the oil was barely an asset, and very often became a liability, yet many engines still went 200000 miles such as the ford Windsor small block and the legendary 350.
It's funny. The 350 chev was capable of running very high mileage yet the 305,which was the same except for smaller pistons was more often than not a piece of junk.
I have a chev work van with a 305 with 450000kms on it,with nothing but maintenance items,so they weren't all bad. But it was a joke putting them in the camaros and firebirds.
I think the Monte Carlo ss had a 305 too. Nice looking car, dismal performance.

Which is why Chevy/GM performance recently built one up with a worked LS3/TR-6060 swapped into it, along with many other wheel/tire and suspension upgrades!

the 305 was at least dependable. maybe not head throw back performance. but durable. the 301..... well you all know how i feel about that one.

I broke the engine in using QS Defy with Comp Cams break in additive. Now it has Brad Penn 10w30 in it.

Still dialing in the EFI, but it is way more responsive thn the Quadrajet ever was.

I was wondering how that Atomic EFI was going to deal with a draw through turbo...

Keep us updated if you don't mind...

It is setup to read boost via a vacuum port so it compensates very well.

The 301 was kind of a dog engine, but at least the fuel economy wasn't too bad. I had that engine with the lowly 2 barrel carb in my 1978 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ. It's been years since I had that car, but I think it was only rated around 145hp. Could be off a little though. I think I got rid of it in 1990-91. You'll have to post a shot of the Turbo T/A.

Matt
