Plumbing Question - Sink Drain - What am I seeing here and how to deal with.

@DuckRyder , just to add to @burbguy82 's advice, why the hesitation to cut that all out of there? That would have been my (totally amateur) first go to move. Cut that galvanized and cast mess out and couple it with fernco fittings, etc. Is there not enough room between the floor and that first tee with the plug in it?

RE: Updates - not yet on the list to deal with in next few days...

RE: why not cut out. Well that vent pipe goes all the way up second story thru roof (in the front no less) if it moves I'm kinda in a pickle. Plus it is tight onto the floor fitting and i do not want to have to tear concrete up (more). Plus 2 there are two others that are done the same way and are going to have to be looked at - they have fernco fittings on the chrome tube and they are sketchy. I wont have the same kinda access and want to see if i can save it.

Bonus: Contractor Rant: My former "contractor" put a bathroom heater/fan in using blue tape on the vent pipe.... now i love blue tape but not for vent pipes.... Bonus the outlet is sideways not down .... I could go on... I guess i should be happy he went out of business before finishing it would just be more i had to fix right... or at least closer to right...

Success!

I cut two groves in the top about 1/8th apart and nocked the sliver out with a chisel then folded it into itself basically as burbguy suggested.

The threads look fine but it'll be at least several days before i know wit the new drain arrangement will leak.

Yep, that is the "marvel ring" i spoke about before. I would suggest using a SCH80 pvc male adapter to make the final connection.

I have had to do it once or twice myself.

Good job
