Napa Silvers, Motorcraft S series and Fram Tough Guards all work very well for me.

I'll see if I can find a pic of someone else's Jeep filter for you so you can see.

This is the same on my dads Ford 4.6 engine. When he had his oil changed at indy shops they would install cheap 'NON MC' filters. These filters were causing engine rattle upon startup. Since my cousin has been doing his OCIs using a MC filter there is no engine rattle upon startup.
Which engine is in your Jeep? I can Google it see the illustration.

It's the venerable 4.0 in line 6.

I couldn't find a filter pic but here is the mount assembly, it'll give you a good idea the filter comes straight off the side of the engine perfectly horizontal.

Did you cut it open for a look inside?

Do you think the oil sending unit guts are in the filter?

I was talking about the filter, not the oil sending unit.

I wanted to know if the filter was messed up and causing the oil pressure issue, and the only way to know that is to cut it open.

No that appears to have a modified filter mount on it, stock comes straight out the side at 90 degrees. That mod is a good idea though, just about any filter would probably work fine at that angle.

I can't find a stock pic.

I didn't realize till you asked the question that older 4.0's had the filter at an angle. The last two I've had have been straight like this.

Well, if they are loose and move around, then there's no seal there. It's possible the glue didn't catch them during manufacturing, or the media is tore there.

I took a flashlight and looked really close at this spot. I didn't see any tearing of the media that's been posted on here previously. As mentioned earlier, I'm not an oil filter expert, but it does seem that the media should not have been able to be moved at the end cap.

To clarify at the movement point is there adhesive present, on the end-cap or on the media? Normally the media is fixed in end-cap adhesive.

Mr_DIY,

I couldn't really say if there was adhesive present because I wasn't looking for it. Now that you mentioned it, I wished I had. I was looking for tears in the media, which seemed to be the major issue looking at pics from other threads. Honestly, whether it was a lack of adhesive, or media separating from existing adhesive, it gives me a cause for concern given the other posted failures.

I am thinking of switching from this filter to a Motorcraft 400S, since the Motorcraft is about 1/2" shorter. Normally I would hate that type of thing, since the older 400's were longer, but this is in a bad location (back of the engine on an Escort so the extra clearance will make it easier to change out.
