AND.....no tears. For your Purolater lovers out there don't get too excited, because more than likely this filter was only ran for 1000 miles with 600-700 of those being highway. I say "more than likely" because the oil was changed out right before the car was driven down to us. The only reason I question the oil filter not being changed was because the exterior looked slightly dirty, unlike a fresh oil filter. This car however, lived in a place that had clay, mud, water and dirt all the time being splashed on it, so the oil filter very well could have been changed along with the oil...ok enough rambling. So, the pleats were plentiful, the ADBV looked fine, but hardly any oil actually came out once I cut it open. When I cut open my Frams I am always surprised how much oil comes out. The seam had no metal crimp, just glue. The pleats surrounding the seam were not torn from what I could see, but one was bent in. They felt very firm but even when I pressed on it it didn't seem like it would tear easily. Honestly I think the ones that are more prone to tearing are the ones with pleats shaped like a "V". The pleats on this one were pretty uniform and were folded up nicely. All in all the filter LOOKS fine, but the fact that it didn't seem to hold oil well, and all the pics of torn pleats, I am still going to steer clear of putting them on any of the cars I maintain.

Well guys, I was planning on changing the oil anyway. The engine is pretty dark looking inside. So I changed the filter out also.

I really wish you hadn't started this thread because it brings back bad memories. A few years ago, a Purolator PureOne killed both my parents. Then just as now there were no pictures.
I changed the oil on the Yukon yesterday and had run a pure one in there previously. If I can figure out how to open it up without investing in a pipe cutter or other equipment.. . . . I can take pics. I ran for 6300 miles or so with Napa 5w30 Synthetic

As for this anecdote, sourcing the post and reading the many editorial caveats included I have no doubt at all of the positive result. Actually shocked to read it considering the source.
Must have come on the vehicle and been used by one the two or three people left that don't read bitog and still use P1.
So while pics would be ok too, in this case no doubt it must look just fine. Good to read another positive P1 result, been many recently.

Looks like that filter is totally FULL of DIRT.. its did its job....
However I would change it a lil bit earlier.
