Picked up a "new" engine for the Grand Marquis

I do have a 5.4L too in my pickup! Looks pretty similar.

This engine will be getting timing chain guides and tensioners in August. Runs good but has some bad timing chain rattle on start. I'm guessing it ate the arms and has the chains riding on the tensioner pistons like the other engine.

Guess I was lucky. I owned both a Crown Vic and Grand Marquis and drove them both close to 200K with minimal maintenance. I did go through a couple of starters due to them hanging down where they got sluiced with salty slush all winter long. My local greasy garage guy put together a long string of extensions and joints to get that third bolt out. When I sold them they were both running well and would serve the next owners well. I find here in the great NE you get about 15-20 years and 200K miles before rust becomes an endless problem. Sold the GM with a small rust leak in the oil pan, which I told the buyer about.
