Pet peeve!! MOBIL not MOBILE

Just had to vent! I spend some time on other forums- especially the Corvette ones and EVERY time there is a "what oil to use" thread there are several people saying mobile instead of MOBIL and that, to be honest, just irrates me to no end. There are a few here on BITOG but that seems to have gotten better as we all educate around here lol!
Lol.. don't let it under your skin. Here's the thing, autocorrect might be behind this misspelling without these folks realizing. I'm one of those people who don't like autocorrect on, particularly because I use technical terminology and weird shorts that are rarely used by the majority of population. Autocorrect is mostly the culprit.

Well guys I did not think this thread would go so far 😆 glad I could amuse you guys! Lots of other good examples too.
Hey, they had many years to get it right - buuttt …

Yes, that's one of my peeves too. How someone could see the bottles and still types Mobile 1 just shows there is a lazy mind right there for everyone to see. And I use that as barometer about the carefulness and accuracy of anything else they post.

I hate when people ramble and talk too much. Like yesterday when the Mrs and I took a little trip to the store to get some shopping done. Her bad knee started to flare up so I had to push the shopping buggy. Which I don’t like to do let me tell you what. Especially when we do our monthly big item shopping. And of course we were. She sometimes carries a cane now. On account of the bad knee. She got it from her friend Diane who had a bad fall last winter. I guess Diane kept it. So the check out line at the store was unusually long cause the cashier kept jaw jacking and I hate that. She just kept talking and talking about her life. Now I was a bit hungry which didn't help matters. But we had things to do. We did have coupons for ground beef, so that was nice. You know I wish Phill was still the manager of the grocery store - he kept things moving in there. He wouldn’t have allowed that kind of lallygagging. But he had to retire last year due to his ongoing gout problems. He probably has cane now too if I had to guess. I should give him a call this weekend. Anyhow yeah I hate when people ramble.
And then we had ice-cream.

I've been considering getting a Corvette, to have a more streetable sportscar. I looked at a Corvette forum. Those guys are absolutely obsessed... After seeing the how Corvette owners are perceived, I'm not sure I can do it.
I get it and feel the same. I am in a Corvette club but only went to 2 events because it's like a high school reunion with everybody one upping everyone. I especially laugh at how many of them think they have a 1 of 1 Corvette when I know better. I started actually proving them wrong with the data from production counts. That makes them really mad when I show them that they aren't 1 of 1 but 1 of 2102 lol

Still get one - they are fun cars just enjoy it by yourself like I do.

I feel sort of out of place having a 2018 5.0. At 55, a lot of owners of the gen are 20-30 years younger than I and seem to be part of the bro dude crowd that SAYS bro and dude every four words. But as you have said, get the car you want and enjoy it and go to meet-ups at your own tolerance level. :giggle:

I think the same people that say Mobile instead of Mobil are the ones who come to a parts counter and when asked what type of vehicle they have say "Its a Ford truck, its a Lariat." Good grief, Lariat is a trim level, not a model. Same thing happens with GM parts people and "Its a Denali."

A forum is social media. Lots of attitude there from some. But it is a place where you can find information and learn about issues, problems, and hints and kinks. Dealer and speed shop recommendations etc.

I just enjoy driving my Corvette on my local country roads. No clubs, no shows, no group tours. I don't own Corvettes to get friends. The same was true when I rode motorcycles. I enjoyed the bike, but not necessarily other bikers.

This is my local car show and it's sad too. I don't want to see a row of 15 1969 Camaros with hideous aftermarket wheels. I want to see oddball pre-war aircooled Franklins, genuine Minis, Borgwards, etc and better if they were restored and painted in a two car garage on a normal worker's budget.

They should have a car show with a claim rule-- you can buy any car there for $10k. And hold it in the winter so people have to drive in salt to get there.

They are a different breed entirely. I see them at a car show or at the dragstrip, I'll avoid them completely.

You're lucky there's some young blood. The car enthusiasts here are all q-tips. The 20-30-somethings are mostly broke.

Mobile....like in Alabama?

Same irritant as this: "X, formerly known as Twitter...." I didn't know what "X" referred to.
