Perspective on oils and UOA

Just for the record when I say something like I "that is a horrible oil and I would never use it in such and such vehicle" or something like that lets not forget what we are talking about. We are talking about a bunch of guys that are splitting hairs on used oil analysis. If you remove the used oil analysis from vehicles that are damaged and need repair even the worst used oil analysis on here from a healthy engine would be fine for all practical purpose's other then trying to get the lowest used oil analysis we can. So like when I bust Schaffers chops in Toyota applications bear in mind that even the worst Schaffers used oil analysis in a healthy Toyota would be fine for probably 500,000 miles of solid use. We are not talking about any oil on here causing premature failure of an engine or anything like that we are talking about splitting hairs on a $20 used oil analysis for the purpose of entertainment more then anything else.

So lets just keep that in mind. Some people take this stuff far too seriously and really unless we find a mechanical problem with the used oil analysis that alerts the user to a bigger problem coming down the road like discovering a coolant leak while it is still small most of what we do on here is mostly for fun! Even I can get sucked in at times!

So lets just remember this stuff is supposed to be fun it is not supposed to be so serious!

I don't bother looking at wear metals in a used oil analysis anyway. Fuel dilution, oil life left, or coolant leaks, sure, but I think they're next to worthless in determining wear, especially as they're typically used in here.

I agree unless you are talking about Royal Purple...then I disagree because it is horrible oil.

There's only one thing wrong with RP and that's the price.
Cut the price in half and miraculously it will become a great oil
and highly touted on BITOG!

It would appear some of the data is not even accurate! After some of the stuff I've read I am starting to question the validity of the tests.

Not to start a war, but I feel the same way. There have been more than a few mistakes, and I often wonder if the corrections are correct. I've done pretty good for over 35 years without having one done. I will continue down that road for now, until I see the need for one. JMO

I've lost interest in used oil analysis. Most oils meeting the same specs perform similarly.

IF you are looking for a best performing" oil in used oil analysis it can be quite disinteresting. I am most interested in the "catches" Antifreeze, severe wear, poor oil filtration, heavy fuel etc.. If I never have to act on one that is fine with me.

yeah it's ok to be passionate, but it's poor form to get mad at people for saying something that wasn't even about you. i thought this forum was more helpful in the past
