2025 Honda CRV 2.0 oil recommendation

Just changed the oil in my Civic 1.5T with 39k miles. Used Quaker State Synthetic 5W-30. The engine sounds a smig quieter, and feels smoother. This may just be because the oil is fresh, though. The old oil as changed mid June, so 7 months, and it reeked of gasoline. Almost all short trips, so the worst case for dilution. I've mostly used 0W-20, since all trips are short, and the engine seems happy when cold with the thin oil. No more, though. Gotta find someone to give my extra 0W-20 jugs to now.
Just courious. How many miles on that oil change. When my wife had a civic 1.5T she short tripped. Live very close to town. I had to go to 3000 mile OCI for my peace of mind. It reeked of gas. Wardawg.

I totally agree with what you’re saying. I’m saying at 3000 miles OCI 5W30 isn’t doing anything that 0W20 ain’t doing. 0w20 definitely shears down. 5w30 will hold off that sheared gas soaked oil longer. Other than keeping the dealership inline if I have an internal engine problem.
More of the shearing that apparently isn’t shearing.

Set out all my remaining 0W-20 oil on the curb with a "FREE" tag on it. An unopened box of Kirkland, with two, five quart jugs, and a jug of Quaker State synthetic. I'm guessing it will be gone within the hour. Hope it goes to a good home...

Where exactly have you heard about engine failures due to 0w-20? It’s just not happening.

I have a 2016 Civic with that 2.0 engine and it’s approaching 300,000 km using only 0w-20. I’ve actually never heard of a single 2.0 engine failure let alone one failing because of the viscosity of the oil. Wherever you’ve been hearing about all these failures, it’s completely wrong

All the GM 6.0 failures.
He got Those have been contributed to 0w20
They recently changed all those to 5w30.

It was a band aid fix, but the change of viscosity didn’t solve the actual problem. It was a manufacturing defect. By the way it is the 6.2 not the 6.0

Ok………. at least they sorted it out

So many **** engine problems these days

My Mother in-laws 2018 CRV 1.5T has 190k miles on it and has never had an issue. I’ve maintained it off and on its entire life ising 0w20 in different flavors. Oil change intervals are usually between 5-6k. Now she does live out in the country so she drives 15+ minutes any time she starts it. Doesn’t use any oil to speak of during changes.

There’s a good chance whenever my daily Buick Century becomes annoying with excessive repairs etc I’ll replace it with a new Accord. Not a lot to choose from in sedans anymore.

I notice this in just about any engine that I have used Quaker State Full Synthetic 5W30. And I especially noticed the extra smoothness/quietness in my Nissan QR25DE engines in my Altimas that used this engine, which seemed to really like the Quaker State Full Synthetic 5W30 oils.
