People gas it so you cant switch lanes?

I've driven in many cities, but I've never seen worse drivers than in Houston. It's just plain dangerous.
Houston driving sure is mighty rough. Been thru there lots of times.
Ever driven in or around Atlanta , Ga or New Orleans , La?
Best advice when driving interstate near all three of those places. Drive with radio off and pray with both hands on wheel!

I had an older couple pass us, move over and then slow down. The road was largely deserted that day with miles of no other cars, except this one. Our Subaru has Eyesight, so you can see the MPG meter go up as the car adapts to the decrease in speed. No big deal, signal, pull out, pass and get back over. This happened three more times of them passing and then slowing down in front.

This makes me livid with ol' man rage.

Why can't people pick one speed and stick with it? Do they not know how to use cruise-control? Do they even know CC exists ???

I have a simple mantra ... "Pass or be passed". Pick one or the other.

When I want to pass, I have the (unrealistic) expectation that you are actually paying attention to your mirrors, checking your surroundings, and see me coming up behind you, possibly giving you a quick "flash to pass" signal. And when I pass, I promise I won't slow down in front of you. I'll move on and not hinder your travels. I'll even nod or give a quick wave to thank you for letting me by.

Conversely, I have zero problems if someone wants to go faster than I do. I'll make sure to get out of their way in a quick and reasonable manner and let them on by; it's the courteous thing to do. You won't have to FTP me; I'm already aware you're back there and planning my move to get out of your way. Unlike many brain-dead drivers, I can actually judge closing distances and speed differentials. But for the love of all that is holy, don't pass me, and then slow down in front of me! Please ... I beg of you ... Do not create a cyclic series of revolving door passes; if that describes you ... YOU SUCK!

I actually find people accelerate at Costco with carts, inside the warehouse, then slow down. Maybe it’s a human thing, hurry up and wait.

I’d venture a guess that folks generally don’t pay attention. Again I’ve started to overtake others while on cruise, only to have them accelerate to where I now need to move over the right as I’m no longer going to be overtaking them.

Another analogy. I only have 100/100 internet service. Would it be ok to pay for it and only get 55/55? This is what’s happening when people don’t use the length of the respective lane when merging or there’s a closure.

How many rely solely on cams when reversing? This imho is why there are a fair amount of mishaps. I have a scenario at the gym where I do it the old fashioned way to avoid accidents.

They're on the phone or they have a passenger they're talking to. I see cars all the time that are going like 10mph below the speed limit just yaking away to their buddy

Yes, idiots that think they’ll get someplace faster and are more important.

See it a lot more in MD/dc than NJ or even NYC. Of course I also see the locals running red lights and stop signs endlessly too.

But yeah, signal your intent and they’ll block you. Lots of them also ride your tail with high beams on, and if you get over, they speed to the bumper of the next car, and tailgate. Just speed up to jam on brakes. So stupid on so many levels.

A lot of people shouldn’t be allowed to drive, frankly.

I think subconciously people want to dictate their will to traffic on the road. I have also seen people obviously stall backing out of a parking space just because they see someone waiting for it. Or those who purposely drive 10 mph below posted speed in the fast lane as dozens of others get frustrated behind them, then having to pass on the right. I know this because I have seen the offending drivers smirk and then laugh when someone roars around them on the right. These are selfish people that have a person problem, not a driving problem.

Yesterday, I signaled and changed lanes on the bridge, plenty of room, and a Silverado got on my butt and held down the horn. I, being naturally curious, wanted to see what kind of person did that. He unlike 40% of the drivers here, didn't have limo tints, so I could see his head in his sideview. It was a gentleman that appeared to be 75+ years old, and I wondered, will I be like that someday? Being that angry at an older age I gotta think isn't healthy and isn't a great way to be. When it's dense, a lot of unexpected things happen

Today even better. I’m waiting at a stop light to turn right. I’m one car back, no turn on red, car in front of me going straight. Jetta starts honking.

Dude does same next intersection which is a rlc intersection. Hand gesture and again I’m not the first car.

Further down, bus blocking road, car in front of me, once again. Jetta moves out as if to pass, but there’s an island.

The guy had white hair, not bald, no goatee, so likely demographically like me (my hair is not white but maybe 50%). It cannot be personal given the above. Just extreme anger. I don’t really think driving can be explained. All we can do is observe. For all I know the guy hates his car it was a base model lol

I recall watching a drivers ed video (You know, back in the day). It must have been a Disney production, because Goofy was the protagonist. It focused on the different personalities from the POV of outside the car, and when he was in the car.

Usually done by those who live as if they are the only people in the world.

We can cooperate with one another or inconvenience once another.
Don't you think that is a very simplistic understanding of life? In real life, there are interactions all the time, where one may inconvenience another totally unintentionally, without even being aware that they did so. It does not mean that they think "they are the only people in the world", but because they are just living normal life, and sometimes we make simple mistakes all the time.

I have have often jokingly said that if I were king for a day, I would require all drivers to take a test to determine their propensity towards road rage. Anyone that fails the test would not get a driver's License.

I retired from Florida 5 years ago and I went from this:

I'll go back to visit our kids & grandkids in Florida but you couldn't pay me to live there again.

Not really. I drive enough in congested areas to know when people are stupid/oblivious, mean, or nice.

DC area drivers are the worst. Used to think it was NYC, but dc drivers are just malicious and lousy. Especially MD drivers in that area. More run red lights and run stop signs in the last 6mo than I’ve seen in my life. More driving on the tail of the next car, high beams on. More speeding up when signaling intent, in order to close the gap. Really bad.

You can have a lousy or oblivious driver that higs a lane, stays along side you on the highway, uses the brake for no reason, etc.

Lots of folks drive maliciously.
