So we get to be the beta testing that can cause lives lost?Well done. These driver assist systems are in their infancy.

Sounds like you panicked more than anything. These systems usually have choices for what it does. Some will simply beep, others will vibrate the steering wheel, etc. Was there an oncoming vehicle by chance ?It litterly tried to rip the steering wheel out of my hands! It took all I had to pull the wheel to the left to avoid hitting the stopped Tesla.
Unlikely. How would it differentiate from a parked car (even if it's sticking out into the lane) ?I assume the system in the BMW must have a bad sensor or whatever and it did not "see" the stoppd Tesla .
We've been beta testing human drivers for quite some time now. They're still an absolute nightmare. So we get to be the beta testing that can cause lives lost?

We are always the guinea pigs. Having said that, no human can see in 360*. But they can text, play videos, adjust the radio, scream at the brats, drink and do a bazillion other things while driving. So we get to be the beta testing that can cause lives lost?

I was really expecting something more thoughtful and illuminating. Not self serving drivel from the foremost advocate of EV technology. We are always the guinea pigs. When I was working, I used to code in my mind's eye while navigating Silicon Valley traffic. FYI coding takes concentration; focus. I must be amazing!
Not sure I understand your comment, but if you are referring to my programming stuff, I was adding myself to distracted drivers. Not good.I really expecting something more thoughtful and illuminating. Not self serving drivel from the foremost advocate of EV technology.
But what if someone has to swerve around an obstacle or person? These systems should stop at gentle nudging. A bad sensor should be self-diagnosed and shut the system down, not let it hobble along doing stupid things.with the blinker on the lane keeping assistant wouldn't engage. like you supoosed to do when changing lanes
no other cars on the area at the time. Im no spring chicken, i often lift 60+ lbs with 1 arm but i had to really put my weight into the steering to fight it. Like nothing I have ever seen. I seriosly thought I was going to hit the stopped car. I was going 40 in a 45, went over a hill to see a car partially in my lane. Had to cross a double yellow to pass it, as soon as I was near the rear of the stopped car the car i was driving tried o put me back in the correct lane.Sounds like you panicked more than anything. Exactly how our Model 3 and RX450h operate.Seems abnormal.
Usually your inputs override the system if not subtle. I have driven these systems and if you don’t do much they react appropriately . You push hard it does not fight.
As others have suggested, it would be great to report your experience to BMW. You just might be stopping someone's accident.no other cars on the area at the time. No other way to explaine it.I was not speeding and moved into the other lane well ahead of the stopped car.
CC NHTSA. As a mechanic he should count as a subject matter expert. As others have suggested, it would be great to report your experience to BMW. You just might be stopping someone's accident.
