On my commute right now I have this rare period in my life that 19 out of 20 cars will zipper merge in the first 1/3 of the merge area. This is very kind when that same lane is both an on/off, because it lets the “off” folks grab it and go. When everyone zippers it’s great. If 2 or 3 skip ahead, blood boils and people start straddling both lanes.
I wish PSAs might try announcing how it’s supposed to work. The times it’s bad is when people vehemently disagree and road rage follows.
