Penzoil Platinum Question

I was at Walmart and saw the 5qt jug for $20, so I bought it - 5w30 flavor. I also went to NAPA and got a NAPA Gold filter. I installed both in the wife's 2007 Nissan Quest. The van had 8,669 on the miles when I put in the PP. I changed the factory fill dino at 3,500 and put in Valvoline conventional. I thought I would go syn from this point forward because the van really throws the heat and syn is much better then dino for heat. Nissan recommends a 5K OCI so I'll do that to keep the extended warranty up. I ususally run Amsoil in my truck but thought I would try an OTC for the van due to the short OCI and the fact that I needed to do it yesterday and could not wait to have Amsoil shipped to me after the holidays. I installed it yesterday afternoon.

How does PP compare to other synthetic oils? Is it any good? What about comparing it to Amsoil? Is it a true, 100% synthetic? What are the good and bad about Pennzoil Platinum?

I run Amsoil 5w30 in my 2001 Tahoe with 120,300 miles and run 10K OCI. Could the PP run the same and give the same results as Amsoil?

PP has shown very good used oil analysis on here. I think you could run PP out to 10k especially if you do a lot of highway driving and burn off the moisture and any fuel that may be in the oil.

Dont know if you could go 25K on it like amsoil, but with uoa testing you can figure out how far you can go with it, maybe 15K with highway driving mostly.

PP wont do you wrong

02zx9r - thanks for the response. The longest OCI I have ever gone is 10,000.........even with Amsoil. Oil is cheap, engines are not......so I figure I'll change the oil more frequently and have my engine stay cleaner.

Since the van is the wife's it sees more short trips running errands, kid transport and the like. My Tahoe gets run about 90 miles round trip to work daily, so the oil heats up since I live in Atlanta and traffic is really, really bad here.

Glad to read that PP is decent oil.

PP is capable of 10k mile drains and it meets the Honda HTO-06 spec for turbo's which means it will control deposits very well.

Yea, my round trip commute to work and back was 62 miles and I just put Valvoline SynPower in it, was going to with amsoil 0W20 I have and was gonna go at least 15K but now since I moved my daily commute is now about 3 miles total so I will be changing my oil out more frequently.

I am a Mobil 1 and Redline guy, but I must admit I am intriqued by the PP. I did pick up a quart to test out in the lawn mower and that went well. I've noticed also that it is usually a little cheaper than M1 and with all these professional BITOG opinions I think I will bite the bullet tommorrow and get some for the Sierra Denali. I'm due for a change and this change goes to Blackstone for review (I send every 3rd oil change for anaylsis). Currently there is Mobil 1 in there (actually all the truck has seen since the factory fill was dumped) so I'll have a used oil analysis there to post as well as a PP post with the next change so I'll have a fair comparison. My change intervals are between 5 and 6,000 miles, which always shows approx 20% left on the OLM.

So, there I'm gonna run PP and see the results and post.

PP has been my winter oil for my type-R

18.47 for 5 qt, can't beat the price since i use about 8 qts a month

if i use amsoil that would work out to around 80 dollars compare with 30 dollars

I use Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 and NAPA Gold filter in my wife's Accord and have had no problems. Use with confidence.

I love PP. There needs to be another B1G1 sale... I bought an entire case last time and there's not sale since... argh!

Yeah but only 5w30 weight meets HTO-06 right and not 5w-20? I think it's the same with M1.
