Pennzoil Platinum: $7.58/Quart = $37.93 / 5 QTS

Platinum is good for 10k. Actuallby XL/PP are even on a cost/performance comparison. PP initial Tbn is 10.5. XL 9.

Initial TBN isn't as important as how long each holds the numbers above 1.0 I have seen oils with lower initial TBN's hold out better than ones with higher initial TBN's.

Not usually the case, but I have seen it and would have never believed it.

In Canada the XL is slightly more expensive than the PP when you factor in the PC membership and the shipping.

Speaking from experience the XL is an excellent oil and I have been nothing but happy with it in my SUV and would definitely use it again, but I have had the same experience with PP so for me it's about price!

I can get Pennzoil Platinum at Walmart as I am driving by. It's $20 for 5 quarts. Pay your money and take your choice.

6 months 7500 miles guaranteed or get on your back for the platinum and hope that you didn't stretch it too far...not saying that platinum will grenade (it's a great oil with solid used oil analysis), but with the Amsoil there is a lot of security knowing that it is good to go! That's my cost savings in my F150 with <20,000 miles on it.

True.

I think Johnny said that PP was field tested for 15k miles. From used oil analysis I have seen, both PP/XL are good for about 10k miles (generally).

If you go with Amsoil, you're at least giving your money to an American co.

I'm not runnin' any oil for 7500 miles. 6 mos. and 4500-5000 on my PP. Good luck collecting on any "guarantee".

I can't speak for Pennzoil and will leave this up to Johnny, but I know Amsoil pays out. If you keep your receipts and some oil related failure happens to your engine within the mileage they specify they will pay for your engine and have done so in the past. Ask Pablo or Gary Allen!

I've been using PP for the past 3 years in my 1998 Nissan Quest. I have 144,xxx miles on the car and it still drives like the first day I bought it.

That's regular price. Who pays regular price for PP, compared to who pays regular price for XL? I don't think I've ever seen XL discounted 40%. I bet there are very few that have paid full price for PP. I got my PP stash for about $4.50 a quart here in Canada. That makes it a heck of a lot cheaper than XL.

I would have a case or so of XL in my stash if Amsoil had some blowout sales every now and then

I'm using Amsoil ATL anyways... The PP is good, but not for the cooler weather so I might as well stick with the Amsoil year round.

But I understand what you mean.

Why? If it's not too personal (I understand personal issues with oils - so no pressure :).

My parents' 2005 Quest (VQ35DE) doesn't even take a drop! 46,000km with 11 or l2 oil change. It's been feeding with dino (FS, GTX, QS). If i were you, i would take whichever the cheapest DINO out there.

Where he lives PP is $4 qt

Knowing it's cheaper south of the border... I told him to use PP. It's more readily available and cheaper and a darn good oil too.

This is taken out of context... I was stating why I use Amsoil and not PP year round... Trust me I would be using the cheapest oil I could get away with if my engine didn't sound like a bag of marbles in the colder weather...

I said cooler weather, not frigid as I have problems with PP even at 40oF whereas I don't with Amsoil ASL at -30oC (-22oF
