Pentosin question

I've never read anything bad about Pentosin synthetic, and it can be mail-ordered for a very fair price. Strangely, it is rarely discussed here on BITOG.

Thanks guys. I'd heard good things too.

I guess my question was more in the direction of ARX. I've run one pass using Syntec 5W40 and it went well (I think?) but I was thinking about doing a second (at 123K this was the first ever on this 1.8T) and I have a couple jugs of Pentosin here. Just wondered if they'd work (even if not the ideal choice)?

I'd use cheap dino oil for ARX treatments (clean and rinse phase). This advice coming from someone who also owns and drives a VW 1.8T ('00 GTI).

When my wife was giving birth to our first baby, the labor was going slow. So they gave her some pentosin to speed things up. It worked well.

I know... I guess the whole requirement (VW) to run only Synth has me spooked. The Syntec run seems to have worked (maybe not optimally but...). I was just asking because I have some on hand.

There's one in every crowd, isn't there???

kbuzbee,

Don't let VW's synthetic oil requirement spook you. I have run dino oil several times in my GTI, with zero issues. As long as you change the dino oil at around 3k miles, and don't shut down the car with a glowing red hot turbo, you won't have any problems.
