Due to the horrible QC and craftsmanship we’re currently seeing from First Brands and M+H these(and PG) have shown consistently superior quality. In a nutshell.
From my perspective, the

#1 criteria for choosing a filter is a simple criteria: Will using the filter damage my engine? I want to avoid filters that are counterfeit or that have defects like leaking unfiltered oil or might have closed louvers or glue where it shouldn’t be.

The 99% efficiency @ 20 microns is a nice to have as long as it doesn’t increase the cost too much.

Thanks Glenda W for the Pentius PLXL7317 C&P. Just had a question regarding the rubber gasket: Was it glued on very tight or was the rubber gasket loose like the Super Tech filters.
Gasket is not glued but firmly held in place. It took a bit to remove by hand.

You talking about the base gasket?
Base gaskets are never glued, they are retained in the gasket groove with friction.

Thanks. Good to know. My motivation for asking the question was I want to avoid filters with loose gaskets as they are too easily adhered to the housing and could potentially become double gaskets if you forget to check if old gasket is still on engine after removing the old filter.

When looking for a non counterfeit non defective filter, I started re-considering OEM filters bought from dealerships. Just another option for avoiding counterfeit filters or defective designs.

I know their efficiency is less (67% efficiency @ > 20 microns for a Honda A02 filter).
As far as OEM filters go the Tokyo Roki filters look fantastic. No idea on the efficiency though.

That can pretty much happen with any oil filter. That's why the filter mount should be inspected and cleaned every time the oil filter is changed.

I've compiled a short list of possible of oil filters with close to 99% efficiency @ 20 microns and no known defects.

- Federated Extended Life: "99% Multi-Pass Particle Removal Efficiency* *>20 microns per ISO 4548-12
- Premium Guard Extended identifies ISO-4548-12 = 99% @ 25 microns
- MicroGard Select states "99 percent efficiency (Laboratory Test Performance per ISO 4548-12 at 25 microns)."
- Carquest Premium states "99.5% efficiency at 20 microns" but does not reference ISO 4548-12.
- Pentius PLXL states "99% efficiency at 20 microns", but but does not reference ISO 4548-12.

Would the Pentius PLXL be a solid long term choice for a strategic filter for our fleets based on what the C&P's and all known info available, or is it too early to know for sure?

Those are all the same basic construction, efficiency and cost if bought one at a time ($8 to $10 each). Only the Pentius seems to be available by the case for a better per filter cost.

I’m 100% comfortable running any of those or any other PG made filters. Pentius is now on my superior quality list as well.
