For those that own Pentastar’s have you experienced any oil usage?

Just checking if they are known oil burners as I’m looking at some Jeep products

Oil Filter Housing on my Mom's Car, added oil for a while, no oil usage in a few weeks. The oil change soon will be interesting, so I will be putting on some old clothes.

No they are not known to burn oil. However they can leak oil. Pentastars have a plastic oil cooler / oil filter housing. It does not matter what you do, or how careful you are, the oil coolers will begin to leak oil at some point. Age plays a role in this failure as well as heat cycles, and miles. The longer term fix is to use a all aluminum version from dorman, and use the OEM seals.

Chrysler recently re-designed their plastic version for longer life.

Thanks for the replies. My understanding from reading here is they’re actually easy on oil?
Probably but I don't like the reco of 0W20 in the 5-qt JLs. Note the 3.2 in the KL holds an additional quart and they reco'd 5W20. Makes no sense.

I realize you'll make your own choices on weight, I'm just ranting because lack of logic bothers me.

I’d definitely be using a 30 grade.

Friend's son dispatched me to examine a Pentastar equipped RAM...3.6l, 2018 IIRC
I brought a straightened wire hanger with a wad of rag at one end to use as a leak detection tool.
Found none. Truck had 50k.

His dad has the same V6 in a 2017 JGC. No leaks at 102k.

Both do primarily highway miles. Is a change to a XW-30 commonly done?

I owned two, first was in a 2013 Grand Caravan, second was in a 2017 Ram 1500. Neither consumed any noticeable amount of oil. I owned both from new until about 70k miles. Both had some seepage from the oil cooler/filter housing by that mileage. I did every oil change on them myself.
