PENRITE and AMSOIL Dissected Comparison

As per my other thread i have been using Amsoil filters but was concerned with the QC issues reported by many.

PENRITE Australia have just released a range of their own Oil Filters.

Penrite are a very good , reputable company so i was very interested to look at their oil filters..

Today i picked up some PF1020 which is the equivalent of the AMSOIL EAO42 that i use in my Discovery 4.6V8,s.

Upon handling the Penrite filter it is VERY apparent of the weight and build quality. The Amsoil feels very lightweight in comparison !!

Opening them up........ IMO the Penrite is a VERY well made filter , it appears ( at least to me) to be much better made than the Amsoil filter..

Personally not a huge fan of the built in dome nut on the Penrite. On K&N with it, anecdotes have shown it to be a point of rust accumulation. But in a dry area, probably not a issue. Beyond that does look to be a well made filter.

That’s a very good point. However, I’ve never seen a rust hole or an oil filter casing burst from rust. Been changing oil for 45+ years

I think this rust idea is a little bit overhyped

Perhaps, but if one lives in the salt/sand rust belt of the US, I believe it should be consideration. Fwiw, I've seen several examples of leaks in the K&N dome at the weld area caused by rust. And really 'imo and diy experience,' an unnecessary/unneeded addition. To each their own.

Thread 'Fram TG 9 months, 4k miles. Rust!'

This TG filter came off a 2003 maxima. Was on for 9 months and about 4K. Filter was rusted pretty bad. I tried pushing on the body with a screwdriver curious if the rust was deep. Went right through pretty easy! You can see marks where I tried pushing in areas that were not rusting with the

Nice……..have never seen that 1st hand
That one is rather nasty
Going to maybe some wonder what the frame and floorboards are like on that vehicle

I’ve lived in Montana, Kansas, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and I’ve never seen one like that before.

I’m not arguing and I’m not attacking you all I’m saying is I’ve never seen it.
