Trouble is....the fit of the spring plate into the filter element end cap is like a" cock in a sock!! "
The amount of oil that can bypass would be crazy.
I think the goal was not seal in the hole, but on the surface before the hole so to speak. I'm not defending the schlock job by Fram though, Good God.

As per my other thread i have been using Amsoil filters but was concerned with the QC issues reported by many.

PENRITE Australia have just released a range of their own Oil Filters.

Penrite are a very good , reputable company so i was very interested to look at their oil filters..

Today i picked up some PF1020 which is the equivalent of the AMSOIL EAO42 that i use in my Discovery 4.6V8,s.

Upon handling the Penrite filter it is VERY apparent of the weight and build quality. The Amsoil feels very lightweight in comparison !!

Opening them up........ IMO the Penrite is a VERY well made filter , it appears ( at least to me) to be much better made than the Amsoil filter..

Anyway......

If the leaf spring is warped, even though it looks pretty ruffles free, that could also leave a pretty good leak gap. It needs to be flat (not warped) and smooth (no ruffles) to seal well with no gasket on a metal-to-metal interface. Got any photos of the light gap when the leaf spring is installed in the end cap?

At least the potting material/glue they use doesn't flake off in use like the crap glue that Motorcraft (Purolator/M+H) uses.

Just changed out the last EAO42...
Interesting...
Obviously made by someone else???
Has an integral relief valve.....and a much heavy casing ....overall looks VERY well made.
I gather this is an earlier series filter?? Looks much much better than the later samples I have..

I've never seen oil that looked quite so much like chocolate sauce. Must be an Australian thing.
