Pennzoil Ultra and Napa Gold, How Long Can I Go?

Well I picked up some ultra tonight at walmart for 36.88, which i will filling up the rebate form for on Nov 1 to get my 20.00 back from Pennzoil Canada

Now how long can I go with that and a napa gold 3387a filter on my 06 pontiac G6 with the Non vvt 3.5... Would 15,000Km's be out of the question with moderate driving and some cold starts???

Car has 77,000 Miles On it and I use a Open style knockoff K&N Cone filter for my short ram intake.

15000KMs is nearly 10K miles. I think you'd be OK but I wouldn't go any further without a UOA. If the 3.5 is like the 3.1, it's fairly easy on it's oil.

If you don't mind spending a few extra bucks for a filter that can go long intervals, try a Bosch Distance Plus.

15000Km should be easy for Ultra...maybe even 18000Km.

But I would go to a long OCI filter such as Mobil 1EP, Fram XG or Bosch Distance Plus.

I have never gotten a UOA done on the car but every oil change was done with quaker state filters and brand name oil either valvoline, pennzoil, shell etc...

Should I use the stock 3387a filter or can I use a bigger one?

Anyone know of a longer filter that matches the 3387a???

I have a Chev with a 3.4. It takes a Fram 3387A. The Fram 3980 XGuard fits just fine.

If anything's gonna be good for 15,000 km/9,300 mi in your car, your choice of oil & filter should be A-OK. I'd be more concerned about that K&N air filter- but if things aren't too dusty in your location, that'll probably be OK too. If lotsa dust, for a long OCI it'd almost certainly be better to go back to the stock air box & a paper filter.

How about the Purolator PureOne filter - would it be good enough for the 10K mi. oci?

I just changed to Ultra with a PureOne in my 05 Accord 4 cyl. Also wondering how far I could go - I do 60-70% hwy.

a worn engine dumps much more soot in the oil than a tight engine.I suppose you could get 10k on a filter with an engine that is in good condition.Or simply replace the filter after 5kmi to play it safe.

Having that K+N type filter would make me leery of longer OCIs.
Unless you need the louder sound they offer, a stock paper type is best for the street.
What happens is that dirt is indeed ingested into the engine at about 3% more than paper. No big deal? High silicon [abrasive sand/dirt] are often found in oil samples with K+N filters. Depending on ambient conditions, it can go very high.

Keep in mind this is not always the case. My silicon actually went down with a K&N filter. It went from 12ppm to 9ppm consistently.

I will probably be keeping the K&N, I find it made a nice difference in the way my car works. It's a knockoff of a K&N but it's same type, able to be washed and oiled. It was cleaned not that long ago... I do it every 20,000km's maybe. Winter is coming here soon, Don't know how much dust there will be around then

I'd say dust around here is average....

If you want to go 9.3k miles, ditch the K&N and go with a Fram paper filter, or OEM. The rest of your choices are bang on.
