Pennzoil PP vs PUP vs M1EP for MS13340

With the issues that I've had with our Wrangler and not wanting to give any more ammo than necessary I was planning on using Ultra Platinum as the dealer was persistent about that being used.

So I pick up a jug of PUP 5w30 which has had the MS13340 spec in the past, it's even listed as having it on Pennzoil's website, however, the jug only lists 6395. To add to the situation, PP has MS-13340 on the label and on Pennzoil's website. Just raises some red flags in my head.

I feel like I shouldn't use these in favor of M1EP 5w30 which (last I knew, I'll need to confirm) had the MS-13340 on the label.

Sounds like a big mess IMO

Thoughts?

How will you be documenting compliance? Screenshots of the current webpage with date/time stamp to match purchase date of oil? Or are you keeping the empty jugs?

Probably with pictures.

I've never felt the need to be this thorough as I have with this vehicle.

The dealership can be as persistent as they want but as long as the oil has the proper licenses and meets the requirements listed in the owners manual the dealership cannot deny warranty.

Send an email to Pennzoil and get them to confirm PUP meets the specifications then you can keep that as a record for peace of mind if you want to run PUP, you can also get it in writing from the dealership that they want you to run PUP and then they will also have no ground to stand on to deny warranty.

I agree with you, but is it worth the fight. If you're interested, here's the thread about my warranty situation

I was thinking that, however, is it really worth all that when M1EP is readily available and has the spec on the label?

I remember your other thread. My guess is this dealer is going to use any reason they want to give you a hard time. IMO you only have a couple choices. Let this dealer do all your services. Or find a different dealer that may be more reasonable.

I had one dealer who always tried to sell me every BG flush and additive package in the book. When I said no they always said it would be in my history as service declined. Even when the OEM specifically says in the manual that additives and flushes are not recommended.

One of the local Toyota dealers used to always push ZAK fuel treatment and oil “booster.” Don’t think they do anymore. But one time the rep kept pushing after I declined the additives on my free oil change. So I said why do you use an oil that needs a boost? He got the hint after that I guess and stopped pushing.

My parents bought a new Subaru about 10 years ago. It came with lifetime free oil changes and state inspections. Every oil change the dealer tried to upsell something and my parents declined. Eventually the dealer told them that if they wouldn’t buy the services they would no longer honor the free oil changes/inspections. Scumbag operation….

That sucks. We got free lifetime oil changes with my wife’s Honda years ago. Never had an issue.

A dealership wanted to tack on additional charges post agreement. Say it ain’t so.
