I agree with both of you. Mobil 1 is an excellent product and we get nowhere without marketing. If it were not for marketing, we would still be wiping our _ _ _ with corn cobs.

LOL...that is true!

Bill, I bet most if not all are all using M1 in those vehicles on that list. They probably go to the dealer where they will use Mobil 1. Just put aside your hatred of synthetics. We get that most of us don't need them but if you do, M1 among others are very good choices.

Mobil's marketing is much better than the other companies IMO. They state the facts of who uses their product, such as 50% of Nascar, and liste the OEM's that recommend Mobil 1. They don't attack other brands either.

What more do you want? Would you rather have a 4 ball wear test graph or torture test like Castrol?

All they have to do is list the endorsements which speak for itself. The Vegas test was very "real world". Do you think it was fake? Obviously they weren't going to put an hour long video up there of every step they took in the process.

I have only had it in one car for a few months, so I can't say much.
But last October I was in Michigan and Ohio and saw it on sale at Walmart for $18.47. I didn't buy it then, but when I got home to Ontario I saw that Walmart here had it on sale for the same price. It was Walmart's anniversary sale (the anniversary of their invasion of Canada!). So I bought a case of 4 jugs, 5 US quarts. I stayed at that price right through to April! Good deal!
Then it went to $29.xx.
Was in Michigan last week and their Walmart sells it for $19.97 for a 5 quart jug. Also a good deal, with the exchange rate being about par with the US buck, I couldn't pass it up and bought 2 more jugs.
But yea, all the uoa's show it to be excellent stuff. I recommended it to my bro in law for his new F150. He's a farmer and will rack up lots of miles, so he needs a good synthetic that can go longer or else he'd be changing oil every 6 weeks!

The Vegas test was so much of a waste and we have talked about it before.

It proved that you can take conventional oil out to 15k OCIs in a taxi and make it to 120k.

If Mobil 1 EP is so good, Since they took the conventional oil out 3 times further than normal, I want them to take the Mobil 1 EP out to 45k and 240k miles. Then lets see the results.

ANY test should go to 200k before it has ANY facts for me. Any miles before 200k is easy.

That test caused me to dislike Mobil 1 more. Just like the Castrol "dyno" test...

Bill you're entitled to your opinion. I still disagree with your logic.

Cool.

I just find it interesting that running Conventional 15k is ok for a test...

We will agree to disagree....

My own personal belief today is that Pennzoil Platinum is just as good as Mobil 1 and often (I probably should say always) cheaper at Wal-Mart than Mobil 1. There may have been a time when Mobil 1 was better but I think that time has gone. My guess (based on the rising cold flow rating of Mobil 1) is that Mobil 1 is probably very similiar to Pennzoil Platinum in chemistry. And it often seems that when people compare UOAs Pennzoil Platinum comes out looking better than Mobil 1. It seems like with the Mobil 1 people are always talking about and making excuses for high iron levels. If there always seem to be high iron levels with a certain oil when do we accept it at face value?

Good question. I don't have an answer for you. From the people I've spoken too about this, it's nothing to be concerned about at all. Maybe it is more wear, maybe it isn't....

From an engineer I spoke too, Mobil 1 does an outstanding job and they use tear downs to judge a motor oil's performance.

Last I knew, Ford Ford's lubricant vendor was Conoco, both for factory fill and authorized replacement. Has that changed?

Big Jim, believe he was talking about Ford "brands", i.e., Volvo.

Conoco does makes Motocraft lubricants for retail sales at dealers and parts stores, but the factory fill oil on Ford products made in the USA is supplied by Shell at this time. Or at least is was 6-months ago.

I'm aware that Ford endorsed the use of Castrol products for their PAG (Premier Auto Group) which included Jaguar, Volvo, Land Rover, and Astin Martin. Ford has sold all but Volvo, and according to the trade papers, they are trying to unload Volvo too. I don't know about factory fill for those cars, but Castrol as the official product for PAG dealerships in North America. It's anyones guess as to what the official lubricant for those cars is today.

The timing on this was during the short time that Lincoln was included in the PAG, and Ford published that the Castrol use did not include Lincoln.
