going to be the summer fill in the '06 T4R...seems odd the Ultra is less stout than non-Ultra

from what I gather they lowered the Ca on Platinum SN+ to combat LSPI but not the Ultra...This Toyota is the old vanilla n/a 4.0 no LSPI threat.

Why 10W30? You are a long-long ways from Texas.
Sales of it have constantly gone downhill for several years now. See less of it's shelfspace nowadays too.

plenty warm here for 10/30 April-October have the Platinum 5/30 in now doing a nice quiet job

BASED ON WHAT? YOUR OPINION?

If you think "SN +" = "more stout"...... you are probably wrong

Except for the SN, Ultra was always one up from Platinum. Go for the Ultra.

Dear Linctex,
Can you please tell us what 'more stout' means? Just looking for a frame of reference here. What you've provided seems rather opinionated. Just looking to get to a level of mutual understanding...
And skip the marketing mumbo-jumbo also.
Thanks!

And please, no all caps...

well Platinum carries the Dexos1 gen2 cert for TGDI engines where as Ultra doesn't looking further in, Pennz achieves the cert by cutting Ca and adding Mg
I don;t need that formula for this app in fact prefer the big Ca dose thats so toxic to D1G2.

Reduced timing chain wear is reason enough to consider a Dexos1 Gen2 synthetic oil.

I'd doubt that.

Isn't Ultra still the factory fill for the Hemi powered Challengers? If so, that tells me it is still a good oil. I've got 5 quarts of 0w20 Ultra on standby for my next oil fill in my 18 Jeep 3.6. I'll give it a run and do a UOA.

I would think they'd discontinue it if it wasn't still viable. I also wonder if it would pass Dexos 1 G2 if they tried. It may not make sense for them to spend the money on it at the sales volume they have and with PP hitting that market well.

The Platinum 10W-30 actually doesn't carry the D1G2 cert but the other weights do. It does carry SN+ over the PUP 10W-30 however.

Is there any proof of that?

Thanks, I see GM is on it but GDI soot is a non issue in this app also we've moved on to a 10W30 as the subject title implies and D1G2 I believe is unavailable in the 10W30 grade.

The dexos1 grades are 0w-20, 5w-20 and 0 and 5w-30

The 10w-30 cannot be dexos certified by definition. However it's using the same additives and probably less VII. I'd run it and not worry about it
